The airsoft world has a new little nugget to consider with the release of the EMG Colt Defender, a collaboration between T8 and Army Armament which Jaeger Precision takes a look at in this episode. This compact 1911 arrives with a mix of cast aluminum and steel internals, featuring upgraded T8 components like a steel hammer and valve knocker. Whilst the box is sparse—containing just the pistol, a magazine, and a certificate of authenticity—the replica itself offers a surprisingly solid feel for such a small sidearm.
In terms of performance, the Defender holds its own despite its diminutive stature. Initial testing shows it punching out around 0.75 joules with 0.25g BBs, which is respectable given the short inner barrel. The dual-spring recoil system provides a snappy blowback action, though it is strong enough to catch an unsuspecting thumb on the slide's sharp edges. The replica also seems to play well with standard Tokyo Marui M45 magazines, which might be a preferred choice for those looking for better gas consistency during a skirmish.
There are a few quirks to navigate, notably a thread adapter that hides an extended inner barrel, making it difficult to run the pistol "naked" without some DIY trimming. The small factory magazine also showed some initial grumpiness with propane fills, though it eventually settled into a rhythm. Overall, it serves as a functional, compact alternative to more common high-capacity models, even if it is mostly destined to be a unique conversation piece in a collection.
