During a range session, Simo evaluated a fellow gamer’s Barrett REC10, an electric airsoft rifle modeled after the 7.62mm caliber platform from Barrett Firearms. Known primarily for the M82 anti-materiel rifle, Barrett’s foray into smaller-caliber designs is captured here in an airsoft version featuring a standard electronic trigger—a feature now frequent in international manufacturing.
Upon initial testing, he noted the trigger response was crisp. In full-auto mode, the rifle maintained a high-speed cycle. However, the internal mechanics exhibited noticeable gear noise, suggesting a lack of precision in the factory assembly.
Following the test session, the rifle was sent to a technician for internal adjustments, which successfully eliminated the mechanical rattling and smoothed the overall operation.
The rifle also presented issues with its HOP-up system. SIMO observed that the factory setup lacked effectiveness and caused a significant drop in muzzle velocity when adjusted. To resolve this, the owner replaced the stock HOP-up packing with a Miyagawa rubber component, which stabilized the performance.
Whilst he acknowledged that international airsoft products have improved in quality, he cautioned that durability and quality control can still vary between individual units. His assessment suggests that purchasing such models through a reputable shop—one capable of performing necessary internal tuning—remains a practical approach for players.
