"UKARA Not Required" & NAE 2013 Review

OptimusPrime

Yosser's Airsoft Odyssey had Maree-Louise Davidson as their special correspondent during the Ground Zero Weekender National Airsoft Event 2013... "The day ended at approximately 4.30pm with Delta holding out and winning the weekend! Yes, I am biased, as I am Delta! All three teams, Bravo, Others and Delta came close during the weekend to taking the crown, but it went to Delta. This reporter will be back next year as it was a very well spent £85."

Apart from the review is an issue raised by the same author of Zero One allowing players attending the event to be able to purchase RIFs (airsoft guns) without the required UKARA number as a valid VCRA Defence is required to purchase such guns and UKARA members, with Zero One being a founding member, must require their customers to have before making purchases. We were not able to notice this as we were mainly covering the actual events that happened outside the shop and no one raised this issue with us during the event. A photo was posted about this as shown below:

"Like most Airsofters, including those of us in the industry, were does one first go in such a palace of fun? Ah, AEG’s of course! So, moving along to the AEG’s and glancing over the wall of AEG’s facing us, looking like kids about to steal the cookie from the cookie jar, we suddenly noticed several handwritten signs on cardboard, tied to the displays, between the guns. We were surprised when we noticed that the signs stated that as long as you had an event wristband, you could purchase any RIF “No UKARA Needed this weekend with festival wristband” (see photo). On reading this, our small group of players, who had some 20 years’ experience between them, looked at each other confused, watching each other’s jaws simultaneously drop, as we immediately read each other’s thoughts as to the implications of the sign we had just read."
