RWTV On The Umarex PSG-1 GBBR

Veteran airsoft players greeted with excitement the announcement of a gas blowback version of the PSG-1, with the AEG version first released by Tokyo Marui almost 3 decades ago. Marck takes a look at the Umarex PSG-1 GBBR (OEM: VFC) in this RedWolf Airsoft TV episode... "One of, if not, the most iconic rifle recaptures the imagination of the world with this long-awaited release of the fully licensed, gas blowback PSG-1. Initially released by famed airsoft manufacturer Tokyo Marui many years ago in an AEG format, the PSG-1 has been considered one of the "must-have" airsoft guns any player or serious collector should own. With its success, the thought of having a version that could be gas-powered and operate much like the real steel rifle felt like a dream until now.

The PSG-1 was first devised in 1972 in response to the Munich Olympics Massacre in which the German police realized they did not have a precision weapon effective enough to neutralize terrorists resulting in the deaths of many hostages. After this tragedy, the German government commissioned Heckler & Koch to deliver a rifle for their military and police that boasted high-accuracy, large magazine capacity, and semi-auto firing capabilities. After the release of the PSG-1 it was proven to be a highly successful rifle, and was fast adopted by not only Germany but different variants of it were deployed by militaries and law enforcement agencies in over 30 countries (and special regions) around the world.

The PSG-1 was developed based on the G3 platform and uses the same roller-delayed blowback which granted the battle rifle exceptional accuracy for a semi-auto rifle, which H&K then used for the PSG-1. This allowed the PSG-1 to, at one time, lay claim to the title of "one of the most accurate semi-auto rifles in the world".

The airsoft variant here from Umarex is not only a fully licensed product which means it will feature all the same dimensions and markings as the real steel version, but it is the first EVER gas blowback made. The receivers are stamped steel, this mimics the same process seen on the real firearm. The front handguard and stock are made from high-quality plastic and at a glance, they look no different than that see on a real steel PSG-1. The pistol grip is extremely realistic faux wood and unbelievably crafted with an adjustable palm shelf and the rifle's stock includes the adjustable cheek riser for you to achieve the best shooting position. Just like its real steel counterpart, the PSG-1 does not come with iron sights but comes with a picatinny rail for mounting your desired scope. This is also compatible with the Tokyo Marui one.

Internally the PSG-1 has an enlarged cylinder bolt carrier assembly that is a new design and reinforced specifically for this gun. It's compatible with previous G3 series magazines, which means you will enjoy exceptional gas efficiency, and what would seem to be a wonderfully strong recoil impulse directed into the shooter's shoulder. In combination with the shooting impulse, its adjustable trigger (as seen on the real steel version) not only feels like a "cherry on top" but aids in the overall shooting experience, truly making it shoot how YOU want it to shoot. For great functionality and ease of use, the rifle uses an easy hop-up adjustment system and its last round cut-off latch can be switched off for dry-firing. Additionally, you get a 650mm long inner barrel that is 6.05mm in diameter.

The PSG-1 is a complete package that will include a carrying case adding to the overall realism of a gun many have dreamed of owning for decades.
