Are Tighter Airsoft Barrels Better?

Airsoft & Chill explores the common habit of picking tight bore barrels for airsoft guns to improve efficiency in this podcast episode. Whilst many players lean toward 6.01 or 6.02 sizes, these choices come with specific requirements, such as high-quality BBs and frequent maintenance. It is a bit like having a pet that only eats organic snacks and needs a bath every single afternoon.
After trying out several sizes, including the 6.08, the speaker found that wider barrels can lead to predictable shots at long distances. Tighter barrels can cause the BB to veer off or dip unexpectedly because of interference during its exit. The 6.08 seems to let the BB travel with freedom, resulting in a straight flight path compared to the smaller diameters that might crowd the projectile.
Switching to a wider barrel does make the system slightly "air hungry," but the change in gas usage is not substantial. Since some standard manufacturers already use 6.08 barrels, moving to this size is a return to basics rather than a step backward. For players who want their BBs to stop wandering off on their own adventures, a wider bore offers a practical solution without needing a complete overhaul of the setup.
