Airsoft tourism, I think I heard this from our Philippine friends who have wanted to promote tourism in their country through airsoft. One of the good things about being in Europe is the ability to play airsoft in different parts of the continent which are just a short hop from where you are. The European Union itself, with the exception of the Netherlands, is airsoft-friendly, even if notoriously strict on gun ownership.
If you haven't heard about Abbottabad, where have you been? This city in Pakistan became world famous not because of being the location of Pakistan's version of West Point, but because it is where Osama Bin Laden was taken down by DEVGRU/SEAL Team 6 in one of the most daring raids that will be spoken in reverence by followers of military history.
Airsoft tournaments are not new, as tournaments have been organised all over the world. However, there is no one dominant tournament format which the airsoft community can truly claim that airsoft is a tactical sport. Why there's none? Then let me explain existing and general formats of competitive airsoft, apart from the regular milsim and skirmishes that we do:
This is a big win for Crosman Corporation, getting the US Marine Corps' nod for the company to develop products for the airsoft market using the USMC brand. The USMC agreed to this licencing agreement as part of their public relations and create a positive image in the eyes of the public, in this case, for the airsoft players worldwide.
I have written about the contract won by Revision Eyewear to develop the next generation helmet for the US Army as sent in by Soldierboy in his heads up about this project by Revision Eyewear (now called Revision Military). While based on their original concept called Modular Protection Attachment System (MPAS), it is now part of Revision's protection system project called Batlskin™.
Beat Down Boogie really went for it, creating a DVD version of Modern War Gear Solid and it's now on pre-order for US$15.00 for US buyers and US$18.00 for international orders which already includes shipping. If you want the DVD and Modern War Gear Solid Shirt Combo, it's US$37.00 with shipping.
Are the creative juices running again? Do you have something in mind that would wow other airsoft players that they would vote for your creation or photo? Do you want to honoured in Japan, the land of Airsoft? If you say YES to all of these, then better prepare yourself with Hyperdouraku's Airsoft contests where you will be pitted against some of the best custom work and photos sent in by the Japanese airsoft community.
The word is just getting around that Revision Eyewear, which already has a sizeable customer base in the airsoft market, just bagged a contract from the US Army's Natick Labs Soldier Systems Division to develop the next generation helmet worth just a tad below US$2 million. This has been reported by Soldier Systems Blog based on the press release from the Office of Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont).
While not a problem for airsoft players in general, we always remind ourselves that there are war veterans in our midst enjoying the sport, and they are not few. We may never know if they're suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or not since sometimes it's kept private. This feature story is for them, as it provides information on helpful tools that can help them cope with the problem.
For those who find the Cotton Carrier System for taking their cameras to the airsoft events as too much and would rather prefer working with a simpler but durable camera strap for DSLRs, then looking at the Echo Niner Camera Strap might be a good option. Besides that, pricing is good enough not to think twice in getting it since it is being retailed at US$32.00.
