Taurus 917C Pistol

The Taurus 917C was first introduced in the late 1990s as a more concealable and versatile option for personal and professional use. It was chambered in 9mm and had a double-action/single-action trigger system, a decocker, a manual safety, and the Taurus Security System. It also had an ergonomic grip and a sleek profile that made it comfortable to shoot and carry. The Taurus 917C competed with other compact handguns in the market, offering reliability and affordability.

The original Taurus 917C models had a 17+1 round capacity, with an optional 19+1 round extended magazine for the Plus variant. They also had a frame-mounted safety, like the older Beretta 92S models. The production of these models ended in 2010, leaving a gap in the Taurus lineup for a compact double-action/single-action pistol.

In 2023, Taurus revived the 917C with some improvements and features that make it more modern and adaptable. The new Taurus 917C has an 18+1 round flush-fit magazine, which gives it more firepower than most compact pistols. It also has a full-length Picatinny rail on the dust cover, which allows it to mount various accessories, including full-size weapon lights. It has improved grips that provide better traction and control. It also has a flat face trigger that is serrated for comfort and accuracy.

The new Taurus 917C retains the double-action/single-action trigger system, which gives the user the option to carry it cocked and locked with the safety on, or decocked with a long and heavy first trigger pull. The safety is ambidextrous and can also function as a decocker. The Taurus Security System is integrated into the hammer and can be activated with a special key to lock the firearm. The magazine release is reversible and can be switched to either side of the frame.

The handgun has a 4-inch barrel, which is an inch shorter than the standard Taurus 92 models. This makes it more compact and easier to conceal, while still maintaining good accuracy and ballistics. The slide is also shorter and has serrations on both the front and rear for better manipulation. The sights are fixed and have white dots for quick target acquisition.

“I actually had one of the original 917C pistols all those years ago, and I regret selling it,” said Caleb Giddings, General Manager of Marketing for Taurus USA. “I’m a huge fan of traditional double-action semi-autos like the Taurus 92, so bringing back the 917C makes a ton of sense to me. I can’t wait to put some serious rounds downrange out of this.

The new Taurus 917C is compatible with all Taurus 92 magazines, which gives it a lot of flexibility and interchangeability. It can also use Beretta 92 magazines with some modifications. The new Taurus 917C is available in both black and stainless steel finishes, with a starting price of $599.

The Taurus 917C is a great option for anyone looking for a compact double-action/single-action pistol that has high capacity, reliability, affordability, and versatility. It is suitable for both personal defense and law enforcement use, as well as recreational shooting. It is a worthy successor to the original Taurus 917C models, and a notable addition to the Taurus family of firearms.
