MagDumper: Red Dots vs Scopes

OptimusPrime

The Magdumper got this video about use of optics in airsoft, comparing red dot sights against scope and some recommendations for those who will take this video seriously... "Optics recommendations and a few things to note I didn't cover in the video, but I have in other videos:

Red dot + magnifier: Don't do it. Even for a quality magnifier ($200-400), eye relief and eye box is very critical and is not useful for airsoft. It is also normally heavier than a scope. It looks cool, and that is about it. You are much better off with a biggybacked red dot on a scope or a 1-4/1-6x variable scope.

Variable zoom optics: All cheap 1-4 and 1-6 scopes have bad glass and eye relief/eye box, and are on the heavy side. They can work for sure, but they are not my cup of tea. If you really like them, the vortex strike eagle 1-6 is around 300 bucks, but that is the cheapest one I can recommend.

Basically, if your optic is hard/annoying to use, it is hurting you not helping you. The optic should be easy to use and not even seem like it is there. That is why a red dot is the safest option because in most cases there is zero downsides to them. All optics should be shot with both eyes open, with the exception of using high power scopes at long range."
