Mach Sakai checks out the AGM MP44 AEG that comes with real wood and metal furniture, weighing in at a substantial 4.2kg. This updated version has moved away from painted finishes in favor of a black dye process, giving it a more authentic appearance. The rifle includes a high-capacity magazine holding 500 rounds, though its sheer length might make you feel like you are carrying a small piece of furniture rather than a tactical firearm.
During testing, the rifle demonstrated a velocity around 90 meters per second, with the hopper adjustment found conveniently behind the bolt cover. While the selector switch for semi-automatic and full-automatic modes requires a bit of muscle memory to master, the overall ergonomics feel surprisingly modern for a design that predates most color televisions. The narrow handguard allows for a comfortable grip, provided you don't mind the workout involved in swinging such a heavy piece of equipment around.
Accuracy proved reliable at distances up to 40 meters, with the sharp front sight making it easy to pick out small targets. Although it leans slightly to the left during firing—perhaps out of a political preference—adjusting one's aim slightly to the right brings everything back into alignment. It remains a solid choice for those who want a bit of historical flair without sacrificing the ability to actually hit what they are aiming at.
