The ETU protects against gearbox jams. The dreaded Gearbox Jam can occur when the battery is low. This starts a firing cycle, but there isn't enough energy to complete the cycle. Consequence: The gears jam. On a match day, this is the worst case scenario. The ETU installed here protects you from such gearbox jams, since the ETU only starts a firing cycle if there is enough power to complete the cycle.

The SMG has a mosfet. The mosfet sends the current directly from the battery to the motor, where it is needed. This ensures a very crisp response.
