Don't leave your Airsoft Gun (or whatever gun) within easy reach at home

Gungho Cowboy

Whether you are single or not, as long as you have children at home, PLEASE! Do not leave your airsoft guns, or whatever gun you have, within easy reach at home. You shall be exposing the children and others to danger when unsupervised children are able to put their hands on one. We have read many incidents of children killed or injured when they accidentally fire a loaded weapon left by an irresponsible adult.  Always put them away, under lock and key and take the keys with you where you go.

We always take note that it takes a heavy toll in the conscience of the irresponsible adult for the rest of his/her life. Much more for the child who pulled the trigger. Invest in a gun cabinet  that you can lock and no one else, but you, has access to it, since some adults are also not trained to use guns. If you can't, don't get a gun at all.

Now, for the latest in this type of accidents:

NWF Daily News: In two child gunshot cases, families 'punished enough'

CRESTVIEW - Prosecutors won't pursue child neglect charges against a man whose son was hurt in a household gun accident.

"We're talking about a pellet gun in this case," said Bill Bishop, chief assistant state attorney in Shalimar. "While it may be a negligent act, it's a higher standard (for the felony charge)."

Walter Lee Harris, 41, of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, was arrested earlier this month for the April shooting. In his arrest report, Crestview police said it was negligent for him to leave a loaded pellet rifle within a child's reach. Read the story »

Harris' sons, ages 13 and 5, were playing in a living room when the older boy accidentally shot the 5-year-old, according to the report.

At the time, the 5-year-old was playing with an Airsoft BB pistol, something he frequently used to play "Army," police said. The older boy's pellet gun belonged to Harris, who said he kept it loaded by the front door to fend off aggressive neighborhood dogs, according to the report.
