Would You Want A Call Of Duty: Police Warfare?

Gungho Cowboy

A YouTube video is going a bit viral on the net amongst players of first person shooter games. "Call Of Duty Police Warfare" is a pitch made by a fan that proposes Activision to develop a COD title that deals on police having pitched battles as based on movies such as "Heat", which created one of the most memorable shootout by police against criminals with the LA Police Department SWAT being the main unit on which characters will be based on.

Whilst the comments have been mainly positive about it, there's no response yet from Active Vision, the publisher of the Call of Duty franchise. Perhaps they're having a wait and see if this builds up momentum and they'll decided if this will be a hit amongs their customers.

The proposal seems sound and it might be another kick-ass title. I am just a bit concerned of this game of giving the police too much of a military image, in this case, the US police departments are already armed to the teeth almost rivaling their military counterparts. The keepers of peace image is getting replaced by a more militarised one, that police departments are having image problems in their communities. They have become more intimidating than friendly. But that's just me, I do not know the rest of airsoft players who are into first player shooters.

Anyway, if there's a demand in the market, someone will supply it. On its merits alone, the pitch deserves some attention and creating some episodes that will remind you some of the more famous police shootouts and perhaps some car chases would make it really give some compelling selling points among FPS fans.

The Call of Duty multiplayer versions are still beset with the problems of cheating, and for all their resources and having billions of sales from the franchise, they still have not devoted time and resources into preventing cheating. They still leave it to the players to report cheaters and I have practically given up on the multiplayer since there are really some obvious flaws that even older multiplayer games such as the Return to Castle Wolfenstein had actually avoided and that's a game that's 10 years old.

Even if the game publisher grabs this proposal, I would rather have them fix first the persistent problems before starting to develop this new game version. Activision and its game studios should better look into that hard before eventually planning new game titles using the same game engine that has issues that are the same year after year.
