Video Game High School Season Finale (Spoiler Alert!)

Gungho Cowboy

Video Game High School's Episode 9 is the final episode of this webseries. For those who still have not followed this webseries produced by Freddie Wong and funded through Kickstarter crowdfunding service, Video Game High School (VGHS) follows the adventures of Brian D., who by the stroke of luck, entered this elite school for video gamers.

In Episode 7, Brian D. got expelled from VGHS after picking a fight with The Law, the top dog of video gamers at VGHS and also the world's most famous FPS player. In Episode 8, he goes to work a video game where in a span of 24 hours managed to reconcile with his friends, Ted Wong, and Ki Swan, and also patched things up with Jenny Matrix, the VGHS sophomore who is aiming for the VGHS varsity and recently broke up The Law who was her boyfriend. Since he was able to enlist in tryouts for FPS at VGHS, the system still has him on record and that he could still play with Jenny and her team.

Episode 9 sees Brian D. joining in the tryouts against The Law's varsity team after being allowed by Calhoun, the VGHS Headmaster following his appeal to get back and play. He arms himself with his old game gear made of a PS/2 Keyboard and mouse which were brought back to working condition with additional upgrades by Ted and Ki. Initially The Law was not with his team as he commentated on the game on TV. Following two consecutive points won by Jenny and Brian D.'s Blue team, he immediately rushed to the gaming area to take charge of his team and tied the game at 2-2. The rest of the Blue Team get demoralized upon learning that The Law is back. However during the huddle-up before the final game, Brian D. explains to the rest of the team that he's the main objective of The Law and devises a plan to win.

In the final game, only Brian D. and Jenny remain of the Blue Team, with Brian D. surrounded by The Law and the rest of the Red Team. Armed only with a grenade, he gets kneecapped by the gloating The Law. As The Law aimed to make the winning shot, Jenny makes her move, shooting one Red Team member and tossing a pistol to Brian D. before she got fragged by The Law. In the ensuing commotion, Brian D. eliminates the Red Team and managed to grab the pistol of The Law whilst pinning the grenade of him. He gets to kneecap The Law as payback, leaving him unable to move and gets fragged by the exploding grenade. The Blue Team wins the game with The Law barging outside, unable to accept defeat from a bunch of VGHS sophomores and freshmen. Brian D. earns enough score to be accepted back to VGHS.

Jenny Matrix never got into the varsity, preferring to captain her own team. She finally accepts Brian D. as an official member of her team and in a moment Brian D. gets to kiss her for the first time, savouring his first kiss with the most popular girl in school.

Brian D. rejoins his friends, Ted and Ki, who also got accepted into their teams; Ted as a drift racer, and Ki as a Guitar Axe player. Off they go as the scene fades, the underdogs triumphant at VGHS.

VGHS, according to us at Popular Airsoft,  hands down, is the best webseries ever made for the internet, especially for YouTube that it's not backed by a major production outfit. It also made a feat of raising US$273,275 from individual backers via crowdfunding--- a testament that crowdfunding works to help dreams to be realised by those who are creative enough to tap the online crowd.  Whilst it's not comparable to Blockbuster movies, it follows a formula of triumph of good over evil, romance, friendship, determination, and whiz-bang effects that made it a sure fire hit among online video audiences. Though our average age at Popular Airsoft should make us not bother to watch the series, we did like the series, even if there is still a lot of room for improvement in terms of acting, action scenes, and plot.

The airsoft guns in VGHS were supplied by our own supporter, Evike.com, lifting airsoft as the best props for low budget movies that require some firefights.

VGHS is not over yet. It is said that Season 2 is in the works but it will take some time for it to be produced and the makers would love to hear from you on what you think Season 2 should be. Were Freddie Wong and his group able to make money from Season 1 via ads at YouTube? We do not know, but it would surely be interesting to know to evaluate the viability of earning good income via YouTube.
