U.S. Special Operations Forces Testing Electric Motorbikes

Logan

If Captain Scott McCoy (Chuck Norris) of Delta Force is transported to this year from 1986, he definitely would pick this bike and adorn it will all the weapons he can attach, even a Patriot Missile System if possible. Why would he pick this bike? It's stealthy, accelerates fast, and now being tested by the U.S. Special Operations Forces.

What's this bike in question? It’s the Zero Motorcycles' MMX which they have made specifically for the Special Operations, in Matte Black color, 54 horsepower, 68 lb-feet of torque, and all electric.  It is based on Zero Motorcycle's MX EV Bike as shown in the video below the photo.

So why go all-electric, has the SpecOps gone tree-hugging? I guess environmental concerns are not on the top of the list when they wanted to check out this electric motorcycle  and more on tactical considerations such as lower noise and heat signatures which an electric motor can provide as compared to a combustion engine. This means that operators can approach and bug out of an objective faster and quieter. Furthermore, the lithium-ion battery packs are modular, which can be easily swapped with freshly-charged ones, rather than looking in a hostile environment for a charging outlet. Once back at the base, the batteries can be quickly charged as they will be complying with CHAdeMO standards.

We'll assume that to further the stealthy profile of the MMX, the headlights are turned off with the Operator using Night Vision goggles during night operations. With IR controls in the custom dash that was put in by Zero Motorcycle's engineers, the dash also allows the Operator to reach for safety override and can call in additional power to extend the range.  The motorcycle can go underwater up to almost a meter, so some shallow river crossings can be done with it.

Looking for some videos of the MMX online proved to be a futile endeavor while the units are being tested by Special Operations. The closest that I can find to show the benefits of having an EV motorcycle for stealth purposes is explained by Sgt. Ball as his Department uses the Zero DS:

As mentioned, the MMX is built on the MX, which is durable and lightweight and the MX is already known for doing steep climbs and acceleration that allows the rider to overcome obstacles.  With all these features and benefits of the MMX, it is just a matter of time when the tests are over and SpecOps will certify it of SpecOPS use or not.

With no video of the MMX in some tactical action let's make do with Chuck Norris' heavily modified and fossil-fuel powered 1985 Suzuki SP600 and take on a convoy of Lebanese terrorists.
