Gareth Edwards, the director of the latest Godzilla Film, is back with another Monster Film. "Monsters: Dark Continent" is the sequel of Edwards' successful "Monsters" Film which launched his career as a full feature film director. This time, he will be back as a producer of the film, with Tom Green as a Director of this sequel.

Only few of you may have heard of the "Monsters" movie. It was an independent film released on 2010 in which Edwards is director, writer, director of photography, visual effects, and production designer with seven people for the whole production, including the two actors.  With an estimated budget of US$800,000, it grossed US$4,242,978 worldwide and ranked as no. 3 in the Top 10 Sci-Fi movies in 2010 by Moviefone.

In the original movie, a NASA probe which was sent to collect samples of what was believed to Alien life forms in the Solar System crash-landed in Central American upon return. From there, unidentified life forms started showing up in Mexico starting a war by push back the creatures by US and Mexican militaries as half of the country was already quarantined. An American photo journalist was asked by his employer to find his daughter and bring her back from the quarantined zone and to Texas where the monsters have already started creeping into the US. The movie leaves off where they were rescued by the Army.

"Monsters: Dark Continent" shows a team of soldiers in which Game of Thrones star, Joe Dempsy (Gendry) who are situated in the Middle East (filming was done in Jordan).  Whilst there were no appearances of monsters in the original movie, the sequel is more monster-centric this time and they are massive like the giant sand bugs that are seen in the trailer.

Not much of the story of the movie has been revealed much as the trailer references back to home and then to the battle zone. For fans and critics of the original movie,  they will welcome a bigger-budget movie that would show more of the components of the Monsters that made it a critical success in the first place.

Will humanity, as defended by the soldiers, overcome these unwelcome aliens from out space? Or will it lead to even more infestation of Monsters of other parts of Earth, slowly easing out the human race from their own home. We'll either know the conclusion of the story or it might lead off to full trilogy when "Monsters: Dark Continent" gets released in September 2014.
