Tom Clancy's "Rainbow Six: Siege" Multiplayer Reveal Is Impressive

Gungho Cowboy

It was a disappointment when Ubisoft scrapped "Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Patriots" (R6 Patriots) when it officially announced its cancellation this month. Whilst the reason was that R6 Patriots was that with the new generation consoles, it will be hard for the title to compete with other titles as it uses old technology. My suspicion is that the story of the game is a bit controversial, which is about a militia group that takes on Wall Street on behalf of the victims of inequality and that resonates strongly in the USA.

In its place, Ubisoft announced the new title "Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Siege" (R6 Siege) and is one of the video game titles that airsoft players might be interested in that was revealed at E3. I found this to be more interesting than the Battlefield: Hardline which is a cops and robbers game.

The revelation of R6 Siege is an eye opener though there is nothing revealed of its actual story and we all were given an immediate look at its multiplayer game mode.  The multiplayer mode shown was a 5 versus 5 match hostage rescue scenario and it shows planning, breaching, hostage snatch and preventing the hostage takers from eliminating them and the hostage.

The video shows it as an actual in-game footage (though the game comms sounded unrealistic) where the terrorists fortified the house to prevent the R6 Team from entering and snatching the hostage to bring her to safety. The R6 Team has a drone to use to reconnoiter the house for them to spot the hostage and plan the rescue. The game was evenly matched with one of the terrorists going in and out of the house picking off the rescue team members one at a time.

Two of the main strengths of the Rainbow Six Series is in the emphasis on planning and teamwork and being considered to be one of the most realistic tactical shooter games. Without proper planning a team would find itself immediately in trouble and any rouge team member will find itself eliminated quickly even in a single player campaign mode.  Stealth is still the best though in this multiplayer mode, it’s more of going in loud allowing you to enter by breaching walls and floors to reach your objective as this game features destructible environments.

Watching the demo multiplayer game play was really tense as it unfolds as one by one, members of both the rescue team and the terrorists were taken out by one until one terrorist and one rescuer rushing the hostage to safety remained.

"Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Siege" is set to be released in 2015 and will be made available for the Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Microsoft Windows.
