Stream Live Airsoft Action With Sony's HDR-AS100V Firmware Update

If you are in the market for a new high definition action camera to use in airsoft games, your first considerations are the pioneers in the market such as GoPro, Contour, and Drift Innovations. They have some of the most mature and most sought after helmet cams in the market these days. But with the big names moving in to this market, they have offerings that you might want to consider over the dedicated action camera makers.

Sony's HDR-AS100V (and AS100VR) is the latest offering from the electronics giant to compete against the market leaders.  Just like the leaders, these have high definition resolution and GPS, but they add stabilisation features that we have been asking for in action camera, plus more useable wifi features, and stereo audio recording. Plus, the new release is Splash Proof and if you use it with the case, can be turned into a dustproof and waterproof action camera.

Recently. Sony released a firmware update to their HDR-AS100V that contains the following features: Burst Mode (capture several still frames in a burst), limited edition Motion Shot LE, and Self-timer. But the best part of this release is something for airsoft players who have large following of their videos: the ability to STREAM live video from the camera allowing viewers to watch airsoft action in almost real time (allow for network lag depending on network conditions).

We have been watching a lot of first person videos of airsoft players online and we have been wondering if there is a possibility to watch in first person view the airsoft action live. Now with this feature from Sony, the time has come when we can watch the action as if we were there too.

It's optional remote Live View remote will allow you control 5 cameras at the same time. You can mount the camera on your helmet, another one on your airsoft gun, and another one placed to capture the action on your rear. Just select which camera angle to be viewed at any given moment.

Just imagine this video from Jet DesertFox taken at Broken Home 3 and watched in real time:

For now, you can stream the action with the wifi feature of the camera with the Ustream service as long as you have an account with Ustream. Some may find it a letdown since Ustream can limit the concurrent number of users/or views to your live video. But if Sony  gets to release a firmware update that will stream the video to YouTube Live Events (if your account allows you to do it), then you can have a bigger audience and connect to social networks.

The firmware update allows you to send social network alerts if you are going to stream a live event. Now, with such capabilities (please YouTube, please support this feature), even we can report airsoft news live from the exhibit floor such as SHOT Show, IWA & Outdoor Classics, and other big milsim events provided that mobile broadband access can be had at the venues.

Soon, expect live airsoft events to be announced for you to view online when airsofters start getting action cameras with such features like what the Sony HDR-AS100V. Even your mom and dad will get to watch you in action.
