Somebody! Put A Gearbox In This Fallout 3 AER9 Laser Rifle Prop!

Gungho Cowboy

It's  a slow start for us this week as we await reports from the field as events have happened in the past two weekends that we would want to hear more about. So whilst waiting for these reports, we found something that some of us would wish an airsoft version can be made: a Fallout 3 AER9 Laser Rifle 1:1 replica.

Somebody actually made one, but it's more a prop that can be used for Cosplays or some fan film project of Fallout. Made by Thomas Hughes from Bournemouth, England, he sells this handmade Fallout 3 AER9 Laser Rifle 1:1 Prop for £395.00. I don't know if this is a bit steep, but for collectors and fans of the Fallout series, this might be a good catch. Thomas has this available on crafts sales website Etsy and he can ship orders worldwide. This product is made of resin and fibreglass.

The AER9 is not the top of the line laser rifle in the Fallout story, but it is the most durable and reliable as compared to the new models such as the AER12.  There are several variants of this rifle such as the Metal Blaster, Wazer Wifle, and the Tri-Beam version.

The attention to detail on the replica by Thomas Hughes looks good which he says is 95% accurate to the video game version.  The weathered look is also done well that if only this were an airsoft gun, we'll shell out the 395quid to have one of these in our collection.

For orders, a lead time is required before AER9 prop is shipped, as production is done when an order is placed. This means that 4 weeks will be needed before the item gets shipped to the customer wherever he/she is the world.

This is not the only AER9 prop out there as Volpin Props also make their own. But this detail of Thomas's AER9 replica can inspire an airsoft gunsmith to try and make a version that has a gearbox. The laser gun looks that it has more than enough space to insert a gearbox there. The microfusion cell can be the "magazine" which might be able to carry around 2,500 to 3,000 BBs and a good feeding hose to the nozzle area.  Perhaps an M249 gearbox is more appropriate for such a project.

Here are more photos, and if you want to have this prop as part of your collection or to hang it in your airsoft shop, be ready to shell out £395.00 plus shipping fees which can go as high as £70.00.
