Sig Sauer & 5.11 Tactical Produce Limited Run Sig 5.11 Tactical 1911 Carry

OptimusPrime

Two of the most familiar brands in the airsoft market have teamed up to produce a limited edition real steel pistol. Sig Sauer and 5.11 Tactical have announced last July of this year that they will be releasing the Sig 5.11 Tactical 1911 Carry. As to the limited production, the number of units to be produced was not indicated, but for fans of both brands, it's more of placing the pre-order to assure themselves of having one of these.

Whilst we have heard news of this before, we missed out on the official announcement as posted at Sig Sauer Guns, even if glimpses of this product were made during the SHOT Show early this year. To cut to the chase on how the story came about for both companies to produce the Sig 5.11 Tactical 1911 Carry, 2013 is the 10th year of 5.11 Tactical as a company and what better way to commemorate 10 years of operations with a classic firearm customised to carry their own name?

As seen in the photos, the Sig 5.11 Tactical 1911 Carry will be carrying a flat dark earth colour with  engravings/markings on each side with the 5.11 Tactical motto "Always Be Ready" engraved on the right side of the slide. More 5.11 markings are seen in the pistol grip and on the flat trigger itself. The Sig Sauer markings are not as prominent as the 5.11 ones, but can still be immediately on the left side of the slide and the upper right side of the lower frame of the pistol.
Additional custom work are the skeletonised combat hammer, custom Hogue G-10 grips, and the Viking Tactics Action Point Sights. If you also notice, the pistol also sports a rounded heel just like the Fastback line.

For the pricing, according to Recoil Web Magazine, is estimated to be US$1,700 and they speculate that the initial run will also carry the 5.11 number, which will mean 511 units will be made available.

We don't know who in the airsoft market will take the courage to produce this commemorative, limited edition as they will have to take the licences from two companies to use the trademarks: Cybergun for the Sig Sauer Trademarks, and of course dealing directly with 5.11 Tactical. If there's a demand from airsoft players, then they may just allow the production of  a limited edition, airsoft version that will be faithful to the original.
