A quick thinking young man put an end to a shooter's attempt to kill more last Thursday afterrnoon, 5 June 2014 at the Seattle Pacific University (SPU). In this incident, the shooter, Aaron Ybarra, barged into the Otto Miller Hall of the SPU armed with a shotgun and a handgun, he opened fire, killing one student and injuring three more.

In police reports, the monitor of the Hall, senior engineering student Jon Meis realised that Ybarra was reloading, quickly moved into action, pepper spraying him and put him into a hold. Other people rushed to help subdue Ybarra until the police came in to arrest him.

Hailed as a hero, Meis is a well-rounded student who has won many academic awards, was his school's yearbook editor and even founded an airsoft team according to Komo News.

What's more, Meis was two weeks away from his wedding when the incident happened. When people learned about this, according to Buzzfeed, they began asking for the bridal registry and started buying the wished for wedding gifts by the couple to help them started with their new life after the wedding. The list was snapped up quickly, but people still wanted to give more that they started a crowdfunding project to finance the honeymoon.

Well, we don’t know how Meis finds this situation under the spotlight and how he reacted to this sudden adulation  and gifts from strangers. But for someone, and an airsoft player at that, stopping someone from killing more people, the public's gratitude to his action will be a great reward in itself, as long as it’s taken in modesty and humility.
