Prototype Quadrotor With Machine Gun In Action. Want

Gungho Cowboy

FPS Russia just showed to us what warfare in the near or immediate future will be: DRONES! And they're coming in all shapes in sizes from the Predators circling around in Afghanistan, to the nano-drones that are used by squads in tight spaces. Tthis time ground warfare will be even more longer range with drones doing the first wave of attacks before the actual foot soldiers enter battlezone and will remain at the FEBA if the drones do their jobs rigjt.

This prototype quadrotor with machine gun looks like a bigger version of the AR.Parrot Drone and just like the AR.Parrot Drone 2, it's piloted with a tablet, in this case, FPS Russia had a customised tablet. With a camera, it can identify approaching units and if the drone operator decides to decimate these, he can just open fire. With the smaller size it can be used in MOUT and can help clear out holed up enemy troops in roof tops or upper floors and even take out snipers without friendlies being exposed.

This makes me want to buy the AR.Parrot Drone 2 when it becomes available and kit it with an AEG and just let this be primary weapon whilst sitting pretty from the safe zone and perhaps I may include a small speaker to blare out "DEATH FROM ABOVE!!!" before spraying the hapless skirmishers with bbs.

What if this prototype is an autonomous one with a human operator as an optional feature, only interfering if the drone becomes a threat to friendly forces? Have a squadron of these as advanced or and armed recon units and you remove the danger to human recon units whilst they feed real time intelligence back to HQ?

Now, near the end of the video, it was mentioned that this might be used in the next Call of Duty:

"It looks like the future is going to be fun, but if you can't wait another 15 years, my friends are telling me that this baby might just be in the next Call of Duty game which would be the shit."

With this, Brian Crecente of The Verge is speculating that the next Call of Duty installment will be set in the year 2027 with more high-tech weaponry including this armed quadcopter drone. He even gives the date of release to be 13th of November 2012 as based on the shirt of Kyle Myers a.k.a. "Dmitri Potapoff" of FPS Russian as shown on the video which says "Tacitus":

"Tacitus was a Roman senator and historian who wrote about, among many, many other things, an eclipse. Eclipse is a key word that seems to keep popping up around the marketing for this game. According to NASA, one of the five solar eclipses hitting this year will be on Nov. 13 of this year, one of the rumored release dates for the next game."

Does this mean the game title will be "Call of Duty: Future Warfare?"

So two things we get in this video. The first one is the assault drones will be fast becoming a reality with this prototype, providing an even deadlier tool for combat soldiers to use in the battlefield. The second one is that another Call of Duty title will be coming out this year, and there will be world reveal on the 1st of May, which will be on Tuesday next week and the FPS Russia video is the first of the revelations.

I'll take an airsoft quadcopter over a video game anytime to capture the airsoft action with the onboard video camera and join in actual combat with a mounted airsoft gun remotely.
