The Part Man, Part Machine, All Cop Will Be Back Next Year

OptimusPrime

There's something for me to look forward to next year in terms of movies. As movie studios are turning to old blockbusters to ensure hits, they finally unearth what was considered to be the best movie of 1987, and to which I agree with, the futuristic "Robocop". I actually considered Robocop to be one of the best films of 1980s and its theme whilst starting to be relevant in that colourful decade, is even more relevant in this century, which is the rising corporatism in almost every aspect in our lives and the use of robots (or in these days, drones) in security.

This is especially true in the United States and United Kingdom, where companies are getting to be more pervasive in our everyday lives. Whilst most of things that run modern and post modern societies are always assumed by the government, more and more are now taken over by the private sector: utilities, prisons, and even security. Robocop's first release in 1987 covered this well and raising questions about private firms' loyalties if they are to the public or to the shareholders and other films followed suit. I wonder if the Robocop reboot would even highlight such issues as they become more pervasive early in the 21st Century.

The setting is 2028 and OmniCorp (Omni Consumer Products or OCP in the original) is the dominant global player in robotic and drone technology and have proposed the use this for police work at home. To prove that this can work, a police officer, Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman of "The Killing" series), gets blown by a car bomb and whatever remained of him was put in a cyborg shell, making him half man and half machine -- the Robocop.

I don't know if the story will try to remain faithful to the original movie, though the reboot is adapted to the present conditions I see that the divergence would not be much. Whilst in the original, Alex Murphy gets murdered by a gang, the new one is being blown by a car bomb. Some of the machines in the original movie such as the ED-209 and a much dangerous flying drone.  Peter Jackson is a media mogul and Michael Keaton is the villain who is the CEO of OmniCorp.

Expected release will be in February 2014 and if you wonder if there's an airsoft version of Robocop's pistol, you can check the KSC M93R Auto-9 C Gas Blowback Pistol. But checking the 2014 Robocop, the pistol design looks different. Nevertheless, we expect an airsoft version will be developed once more details about movie's weaponry will be revealed.
