Our Second Day At the British Airsoft Show

OptimusPrime

Waking up Sunday morning, with lack sleep actually courtesy of Master Chief who slept like a baby unlike me, it was a very dark morning as the rain just kept it up. Luckily, our accommodations was just two miles away from Stoneleigh Park, getting there early was possible with no concerns about the traffic that we encountered the first day.

Before I continue with the 2nd Day report, I was remiss in my reporting on the first day as we would like to give our thanks to Stirling Airsoft, with Matt Belgrove taking care of our request to enter the CQB demo area. Whilst other people inside the area weren't allowed to take photos and videos, were given permission after being briefed on their house rules.

The Stirling Airsoft CQB Demo Area was a hit as spectators were able to view the demo closely without the need to be equipped with protection as the dividers had their own viewing areas where spectators can watch through glass. There were skirmishes, CQB training, and snatch and grab demo at the area. It was actually fun to watch and there was queue outside with people wanting to try some airsoft action and or feel how it is to be an airsoft operator for 20 minutes.

Day 2 wasn't as hectic as Day 1, but still a big number of people were already there when we got there. I brought Master Chief Hall 2  as he wasn’t able to get in there in the previous day due to throngs of people coming in and out of the different exhibit halls prevented him in getting there. Hall 2 is one of the best halls at the British Shooting Show and warmer as compared to the location of British Airsoft Show where it is colder but supplied with mobile heaters. The nice thing about the hall where the British Airsoft Show is you get to test both airsoft and airguns at the shooting and testing ranges put up there.

Whilst Day 1 was spent at roaming the exhibit looking for some deals at both the hunting, air rifle, real steel, and airsoft area, Day 2 was really a work day for us as we get to interview the exhibitors at the Airsoft Show. A big observation that we had during the Show was that all the airsoft exhibitors came with their guns blazing (not literally) with accessories and parts included, there was no exhibitor that put on display tactical gear: clothing, vests --- loadouts. JD Airsoft had some 5.11 stuff, but mainly the priority were the airsoft guns. Lots of people were looking for tactical gear only to be disappointed (including us) that none were available save for those 5.11 trousers and gloves available.

So note to airsoft exhibitors planning to be there next year: please bring tactical gear.

In the interviews, we went ahead to interview MilSpec Solutions, RIFT Airsoft, Just BB Guns, Enola Gay, Dave's Custom, Pro Airsoft Supplies, UKAPU, and RedWolf Airsoft. We're still checking the videos for the audio quality as the acoustics weren't really conducive to proper recording as we only have a shotgun mike rather than have a proper mike for interviews, just like Yosser of Airsoft Odyssey so uploading the video interviews will be delayed as we try to improve the audio.

RIFT Airsoft have their skirmish sites in North Cambridge and Banbury and they have some elaborate setups at these site to make the airsoft player feel at home and ready to shoot it out in different scenarios they have in store for them.

Master Chief was given Smoke Grenade samples by Enola Gaye so expect him to send us a review soon when gets to find time to check the pyros when it's not wet at the Airsoft Plantation skirmish site.

I spent some more quality time with Mark of Just BB Guns to get to know more about the company more. Just BB Guns is more well-known as the seller of 2-tone airsoft guns and shrink-wrap toy guns and is rarely mentioned in the airsoft forums. Mark explained that they're expanding more to accommodate the needs of the serious hobbyists and they did have Milsim ready airsoft guns on display. They have a good line of airsoft guns mainly from Taiwan: G&G, ICS,  and SRC. They will soon be expanding to have a big walk-in store and for those based in western parts of London, they will soon be ready for walk-in customers. So expect more mention of this company at Popular Airsoft this year.

Pro Airsoft Supplies mainly handles G&G airsoft guns and they have almost on everything in the G&G inventory, save for the Top Tech ones, on display. Too bad they still don't have the M1 Garand on display too.

MilSpec  Solutions is an airsoft retailer that specialises in gas blowback airsoft guns. They mainly have WE, KWA, Umarex/VFC, and GHK available and with Raptors Custom, some customised and nice-looking gas blowback rifles were on display at their booth. Also, for those looking for Angry Gun accessories for gas blowbacks, you can also enquire with them.

Dave's Custom can fix-up and improve your airsoft guns. Some used airsoft guns in mint-condition were also on display at the SVD package was immediately snapped up.

I finally get to  have a longer conversation with Jim Septhon of The Shop at the Grange to discuss about the Airsoft Arms Fair which he confirms will push through this May and will be followed up by an AIPSC action air competition. Airsoft practical shooters should start preparing for this event as the level of skills among the competitors is increasing and thus, competition is getting more exciting in this segment of competitive airsoft.

Of course, before we get to mention was the RedWolf Airsoft booth which was real hive of activity as they have a small range to test their airsoft guns and a more diversified line-up of airsoft brands and models available. They are again expanding their walk-in store, since in our previous report the walk-in store was kinda small and they promised that they will improve on it. With business getting better for them, an expansion is just a natural course for them and we'll be there during the opening, as we'll be sending Paul to cover them. Master Chief is also excited as a review unit of the APS Urban Assault Rifle (UAR) will be sent to him for review, as promised by Chris Kong.

By 1500H the exhibit halls were emptying as people had to leave than the usual closing time due to severe weather conditions hitting the Midlands. Even for us, we didn’t want to be caught in the dark as we'll be going through areas where we'll either encounter heavy rain or snow.

Our thanks to all the exhibitors who have accommodated us with our pesky request for interviews. We know that you all want to see the videos that we took and we hope we can resolve the audio issue. But we do promise that videos for the British Airsoft Show will be uploaded by the weekend.
