The Order: 1886 PS4 Video Game Shows Some Unique Weapon Designs

Gungho Cowboy

Who would have thought that the Industrial Revolution would produce some exotic weapons and devices? If you are thinking of either a new movie or video game that is. This time it's the game developers at Ready at Dawn and SCE Santa Monica Studio who have come up with a video game that puts you back in time, in 1886, in the midst of the Second Industrial Revolution (also considered as the Technological Revolution), where an old order of knights battle it out against a race of half-breeds.

The Order: 1886 is an alternate history of the London, the epicentre of the Industrial Revolution. The Order is comprised of knights who trace their roots from the Knights of the Round Table that was founded by King Arthur. In this alternate history, The Order is in constant battle against the half-breeds, a race of half-humans and half-animals who have battle advantages due to their superior animal strength. It was a losing battle for the humans but will find that they can fight back with inventions of the Industrial Revolution. With the new weapons, they can even the fight against the half-breeds and push them back from taking over humanity.

It is an interesting plot and something that movie producers might be interested in. But for the video game itself, which is a third-person shooter, the game will only be available for the Playstation 4 game console since the game publisher is Sony Computer Entertainment. That's unfortunate since PC Gamers like us at Popular Airsoft would be keen to try this game out.

But what really interest us are the weapons designed for the game. Usually, we expect these weapons designed by the creative Anime and Manga story tellers in Japan. You understand what I am trying to point out, just like those weapons designed for movies that have their own airsoft versions, these might be designed of airsoft if possible:

The Combo Gun

At first glance it looks like a more intricate version of Browning M1918/BAR. The Combo Gun has two barrels for two functions. The first one is the Rifle Function for hitting enemies from a distance. The second barrel sends a blast that stuns the enemies which then can be picked off with the Rifle.

The Thermite Rifle

This is an interesting weapon which looks like it takes its design inspiration from the Russian Degtyaryov machine gun (or known as DP), the Thermite Rifle, according to Game Informer "is the flashiest and most devastating of the bunch Ready At Dawn has revealed so far. Pellets packed with strips of aluminum iron oxide are blasted into the environment, which then break open into a cloud of glittery metal paper. A high temperature flare is then shot into the cloud, creating a chemical reaction that turns the cloud into a burning mass of melting metal. This devastating weapon is perfect for punishing enemies hiding behind cover."

The Arc Gun

Perhaps something that cannot be designed for airsoft but interesting nevertheless is the Arc Gun which is a high-voltage weapon that can be used to zap targets from afar. Sounds like a Taser Gun on steroids.

Fragmentation Grenade

The Fragmentation Grenade looks like the Germand Grenades in World War II but can also serve another purpose --- being a stick-it mine that explodes if enemies are within its blast radius.

There are other interesting inventions in The Order: 1886 that were ahead of their time, Zeppelins, and even wireless communicators. Whislt others are debating at the game quality in terms of frame rates and Graphics, for me, I'm more interested in the weaponry. Sometimes it's nice to have some exotic designs in airsoft and perhaps some might want to make this a custom project of theirs.
