Whilst airsoft is not classified as a firearm in the United States, and the mere requirement of owning an airsoft gun is to have a orange muzzle/flash hider in order to play with one, New York City itself, where dream are made of, it is banned. This is due to an old city law that considers toy guns as firearms.

There are efforts to legalise airsoft in NYC, as there is an existing online petition. But it is a tough effort given that the Mayor of New York City, the billionaire Michael Bloomberg, is spearheading efforts for stricter gun control laws in the USA. Not a good friend of firearms owners, even if he comes from the Republican Party.

Outside of the city, airsoft players can play at airsoft and paintball sites in the State of New York and neighbouring states, such as New Jersey, and the New England areas. But knowing airsoft games for New Yorkers is something that needs to be coordinated, and our good friend, Moondog of FilForce and Moondog Industries, decided to launch NYCAirsoft.com as reflected in his press release below:

NYCAirsoft.com launched. Fugeddaboudit!

New York City, August 6, 2011.Moondog Industries, maker of Moondog D-Fog® and Moondog D-Jam® has launched NYCAirsoft.com, New York City’s first airsoft website portal. WTF?! There's no airsoft board for New York City? Sad but true, there hasn't been a website specifically for the airsoft community in the New York City.

Whilst airsoft guns are banned within the Big Apple due to a 60 year old toy gun law, there's a thriving community of airsoft players. Well known airsoft teams such as GMR and FilForce have members who live or work in New York. NYC players travel to fields elsewhere in New York state and to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Connecticut, where airsoft games are legal.

NYCAirsoft.com is a website portal to information about airsoft events, cultural events, historical reenactments, tactical sports and entertainment. It features a team-agnostic forum where players in the New York metropolitan area can share information about games, carpools and events. Its "Airsoft 101" section contains a wide range of articles on airsoft for beginners. In addition, NYCAirsoft has a Facebook Group to facilitate social networking online and at informal lunches and pub crawls in Manhattan.

NYC Airsoft also provides special events planning, featuring some of the regions most experienced producers. NYC Airsoft members have produced original events and specialize in charity benefits including: Operation Bad Blood, The Tantalum Contract, Evike’s ShootOut competition series and Code Name: Buran.
