Backdraft Innovations provides a quick and easy guide on how to install the Batch 2 upgrade kit for the Backdraft Phoenix HPA engine. This update was designed to incorporate user feedback, ultimately providing more tuning capabilities and an improved user interface for the fire control unit (FCU). Customers can choose an upgrade kit that includes just the new FCU and instructions, or one that also features a new, more adjustable solenoid with a more convenient adjustable throw length.

The installation walks through disassembling the engine to swap the solenoid (if purchased) and then simply plugging the new FCU into the existing wire harness. The most critical step is the initial tuning of the engine: the user is instructed to set the dwell to 5 milliseconds and gradually tighten the throw screw until the engine's sound profile just begins to change, indicating the most efficient setting. The dwell is then slightly increased for reliable performance on the field.
