Hollow vs Solid AEG Gearsets

WYSHTECH Airsoft tests whether Solink’s "hollow" gearsets offer a genuine performance boost or are simply a marketing gimmick. By comparing the hollowed-out gears against a standard solid set, the host examines if reducing the rotational mass of the sector gear leads to a faster trigger response and better battery efficiency.
The testing involves high-end components, including a brushless motor and a Gate Titan ETU, to capture precise telemetry data. While the hollow gears are significantly lighter—shaving off about 8 grams—the technical results are underwhelming. The data shows only a negligible two-millisecond improvement in trigger response and a minor one-round-per-second increase in the rate of fire.
Ultimately, the creator concludes that the performance gains are too small to be felt during actual airsoft gameplay. While the hollow design is a feat of engineering, it offers no substantial advantage in speed or amp draw over traditional solid gears, making it more of a novelty than a necessary upgrade for most players.
