Mo' MOLLE, Mo' Problems. MOLLEminus, Minus Problems

Gungho Cowboy

If you remember Evike.com's "Mo' Molle, Mo' Problem"s video inspired by the Epic Meal Time commercial? That was one of the most hilarious videos made last year very much well-received by the airsoft and tactical community. Though come to think of it, indeed you can never have enough of MOLLE, and the tendency to attach so much with it. Especially for geardos in the airsoft community, there's a tendency for some to overdo the loadout leading to unnecessary weight inappropriate with the airsoft game mission at hand.

And speaking of weight, we always look for ways to lessening the weight of items we carry. Whilst some are unavoidable due to volume such as hydration packs and magazine pouches, we sometimes overlook some areas where to reduce weight. Blue Force Gear's Helium Whisper, which I have written about last week, have added another innovation that helps in weight reduction, their MOLLEminus system that uses their own proprietary ULTRAcomp, which is their patent pending lamination for tactical gear, and also used in their Helium Whisper product line-up.

MOLLEminus means "MOLLE minus the weight, bulk, and complexity" making it the "thinnest, strongest, lightest" load bearing equipment (LBE) in the market today. As stated in their marketing material:

"Half the thickness of a dime, over 4 times as abrasion resistant as air textured nylon and formed from only a single piece of composite. Fully backward compatible with legacy MOLLE, MOLLEminus supports existing MOLLE and PALS compatible pouches including Blue Force Gear’s revolutionary Helium Whisper™ Attachment System."

The first product using their MOLLEminus is the RACKminus which is a chest rig that weighs just 254 grams according to the report of Soldier Systems from Warrior Expo East.  Since it's made from the hydrophobic ULTRAcomp it doesn’t gain much weight when wet, quickly dries, and is anti-fungal, keeping away fungal and bacterial growth, thus, no worrying about bad odour.

To mount the RACKminus of MOLLE armour carriers such as those from Crye Precision, Mayflower, Velocity, and First Spear you will need to use two female repair buckles and two tee-mounts from National Molding but are not included in the package. Upon release of RACKminus, the first batch was immediately snapped up by waiting customers and there's a high demand that availability is not immediate. Price is at US$100.00, which is reasonable enough for a new and innovative product that's aimed at making the load bearing concerns of the warfighter "lighter".

There are a few photos about RACKminus being worn which you can find at Soldier Systems and Military.com's Kit Up! Blog. I am curious if it can be worn in other body armour systems especially that I want to put over a PECA one. As for other colours or camo patterns, so far what we have seen of this product is it is initially released with the multicam pattern.

Blue Force Gear's line of LBE technology are just getting better. I may want to put one together soon, but I am just waiting for wider adoption by other gear makers and stock availability at tactical gear shops, including airsoft retailers.
