Meet Dillard Johnson, A Soldier With Over Two Thousand Kills

Logan

It's the week when Americans are proud of as a country, having fought for their independence from the British Empire and gave birth to the most enduring and well known democracies in human history.  With this observance also comes stories of Americans who have served and created legends for their country. Yesterday, I wrote about Dale Comstock, the former Delta and now a well-known American Badass. Now I write about someone who may just make your jaws drop in disbelief for what he had accomplished in the field of battle.

Dillard Johnson, if we can also borrow Dale Comstock's title, can also be called one American Badass.  Depending on what sources you would believe, it is undisputed that he is one of the deadliest American soldiers of all time. According to the New York Post, he has killed 2,746 enemies. In his book, written in cooperation with James Tarr, in "Carnivore: A Memoir by One of the Deadliest American Soldiers of All Time" also give informal estimates of over 2,000 kills. Making him perhaps the top human killing machine the US military had. Definitely, he is someone not to be messed with.

The numbers are just unbelievable, and everybody would say that upon knowing the tallies. But such estimates have been corroborated by others who were there. With that number, only video FPS gamers and airsoft players, can surpass that number of kills.

The numbers have been recorded by Johnson as a commander of a Bradley Fighting Vehicle call "Carnivore" when they went into action over in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and colleagues in C/3-7 CAV confirm such kills as they went from objective to objective.

Johnson suffered from third-stage cancer due to the uranium depleted rounds used during the war but recovered and went back into action for his second tour of duty where he took up sniping to support the troops. In this change of role, he was able to tally the second most number of kills by a sniper after Chris Kyle, at 121 confirmed kills as compared to Kyle's 160 kills.

I haven't read the book, but would be buying it this week to find out if such large number of enemies killed have left an imprint on him, or making him sweat at night, not being able to sleep well. It is said that the title being one of the deadliest soldier is something he does not want to lay claim to, even his souvenirs during the war are not displayed, including the Iraqi flag that he got from Saddam Hussein's limousine.

Dillard Johnson's book "Carnivore: A Memoir by One of the Deadliest American Soldiers of All Time" can be ordered at Amazon.com for  US$18.21 in hardcover for now.
