Mario Warfare Part 4: Welcome To Smash Club

OptimusPrime

With the releases of Beat Down Boogie's Mario Warfare not predictable, we missed the latest installment, Part 4, by three weeks. The last time where we left off, Princess Peach came under the protection and tutelage of Donkey Kong, whilst the Mario Brothers, Mario and Luigi, stumbled into a group of brawlers called the Smash Club (just like the "Fight Club") who lost their homelands to Bowser and have banded together just to fight and test their skills.

This episode looks to be the second in the part where the main characters, Mario Brothers, Princess Peach, and Donkey Kong, prepare their skills and forces to get back at Bowser. Whilst the Mario keeps on winning fights to raise funds for their plumbing business, Princess Peach was training under Donkey Kong, getting tactical and fighting skills. Their paths once again cross when Donkey Kong wants to test Princess Peach have learned by bringing her to the Smash Club, under disguise, to challenge the Smash Club champion, Mario.

No firefights in this episode this time, as we expected it to be, as this movie is full airsoft props. Instead, this is heavy in fights where you see the different fighting skills of what might be the characters that will be part of the rebellion against Bowser. The creators are not telling us much yet, and instead this episode shows more characters such as Link from Legend of Zelda, and of all anime series, Pokemon.

We don't know how many episodes are left in the Mario Warfare series, though we could've preferred a closer release from one episode to another, lest fans lose interest in the series, or forget that the series is not over yet. A spacing of one month per episode would be too long for fans and they might also forget what the whole story is all about, with the exception of the most loyal ones.

Anyway, we do like the story and we want a faster unfolding events just to keep the interests up. But sometimes we are also realistic in our expectations since indie film makers are also limited by budget and time and thus appreciate that the Beat Down Boogie are working hard to complete the series. So we look forward to the release of Part 5 before the end of the month.

By the way, a fight scene of Mario Warfare won the Japan Film Society’s live action shorts competition during the Anime Expo in LA. We just don't know which.
