Mad Max: Fury Road Set For Summer 2015 Release

Some of the airsoft events that I find fun are those with dystopian or post-apocalyptic themes -- shooting zombies or the Mad Max--style airsoft events. I find these events a bit democratic as participants can come in whatever outfit they want as long as they fit the post-apocalyptic settings as defined by the Mad Max series, the movies which catapulted Mel Gibson to stardom. This means that whatever you want to wear, you can wear, and we usually love leather, lots of leather. Gas masks and big googles are also mandatory no need to follow a certain loadout or camo/colour requirement like in the usual airsoft/milsim events.

Now speaking of Mad Max, fans of this movie, mostly of Generation X, would look forward to a new title from the series. After thirty years since the last Mad Max title, "Thunderdome", Mad Max gets reincarnated in 2015 with English actor, Tom Hardy, who was Bane in "Batman: The Dark  Knight Rises" taking on the lead role as Mad Max. Mad Max 4: Fury Road is actually not a new concept as this has been planned since Thunderdome got released but went into haitus as production encountered financial difficulties. Only in the new millennium did it find new funding but production was shelved due to security concerns, and politically sensitive issues since the War on Terror was ongoing.

Charlize Theron and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley also star in this movie which will be distributed by Warner Brothers worldwide. As to those who will ask if Mel Gibson will be in this movie and the answer is affirmative. He was initially interested but finally wanted in and he takes up the role as the "Drifter."

As for the oldies at Popular Airsoft, we'll be very much interested in seeing the costumes, weapons, and of course the vehicles which are one of the come-ons of the original Mad Max series.

Details as to the story line are still hazy and production has started in the African country of Namibia. We anticipate that this Fury Road will carry on the tradition of Mad Max faithfully. Mad Max is one of the movie franchises that has a big impact on popular culture like Star Wars, Star Trek, and Lord of the Rings.  The costumes, cinematography, story, and the vehicle designs have been adopted in many movies, TV series, cartoons, and even music.

For me, I can’t  wait to see the how the Interceptor car will look like in the movie. But will this movie spawn a series of airsoft events based on the Mad Max theme again? I hope so, in recent years, I haven't heard airsoft event organisers having one as the most of them are into Milsim events. Time to put some variety in airsoft event themes again.
