Glock Carbine

Whenever the name Glock is mentioned, the first thing that comes to our minds are the iconic pistols that the Austrian firearms company. But over the years, many have wondered if the company will expand from making handguns to other firearms types such as carbines and rifles. There was no indication that the company is ever going to, until the recent months.

Spartan AT brought to our attention that there is indeed a Glock carbine in the works. In a video they posted over a year ago, the point to the patent applications they filed showing an AR-style rifle. You can watch the video below and click here to see all the illustrations relating to the patent applications about the rifle:

In their latest report, Spartan AT show leaked photos of the GR-115F, an AR-15 style carbine being developed by Glock. We cannot say of the photos are prototypes or already production versions. According to them the British are testing the rifle will it be replacement of the SA80 series, with the more recent variant being the L85A3 or will it be for more specific requirement of some units such as the special operations  forces?

The Firearm Blog also posted the news and reached out to Glock to confirm the existence of the rifle. The company confirmed the development of the rifle as response to a solicitation by the British:

"GLOCK is always in development of future products and technologies through the pursuit of perfection. The image shared is of a product developed for select solicitations and it is not available for the general market at this time."

The guessing game goes to the type of material that the rifle uses. Assuming that it follows the tradition of Glock pistols being made of polymer, at least the lower receiver can be polymer, making it a lighter rifle. If indeed it is polymer, will AR users be willing to accept the Glock carbine given that they are concerned with durability issues with polymer?

There is a wide base of Glock users around the world such as military, LE and civilian shooters. This is a big base that the company can market its upcoming rifle to and if there will be a licensed airsoft version, either Umarex or Cybergun or both will be marketing it.

Stay tuned…
