Iron Man Or Master Chief? U.S. Army Looks Into Future SpecOps Uniform

Logan

While the U.S. Army is pre-occupied with the Camouflage Improvement Effort, whether they are going to select the OCP (Multicam) or not, the US Special Operations Command is looking into a more high-tech uniform designed to make the special operations soldier go into a combat with superhuman strength and even better ballistic protection that would rival Iron Man's suit.

Called the Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit, or TALOS, the uniform is an exoskeleton that has liquid armor, built-in computers, night vision, system and other gear designed to give the soldier and even heightened situational awareness. If this happens, the only thing needed is basically the cloaking/stealth feature seen in the Crysis First Person Shooter video game.

With the U.S. Army's Research, Development and Engineering Command Public Affairs (RDECOM) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and other research groups involved in the project, as the USSOCOM believes that not one group would be to roll out such an intensive future warrior project.

Apart from the tactical systems that will be built in TALOS, there will be continuous monitoring of the vital signs of the soldier such as hydration, heart rate, body temperature, and other medical monitoring systems design. Overall, TALOS is one uniform/suit that will finally bring the US Special Operations into the realm dreamed of by FPS video game designers and sci-fi writers.

The video above shows how the liquid armor will make the operator almost impervious to bullets and he and she can enter rooms without worrying about the impact of bullets coming from the enemy and such will allow the operator to clear rooms with minimum casualty concerns.  More tests are now being conducted to see the progress of the technologies that will be put into TALOS, and as to when a full working prototype will be revealed, that is still subject to much speculation,

If indeed TALOS becomes a reality, then it will reflect a quantum leapt into special operations equipment, and if the costs of TALOS lowers after in use by special operations in the future, even large scale warfare will be totally changed and our worry is that even more destructive weapons would be developed to defeat a high technology and armored enemy.
