The iPhone 4 And 4s Get Night Vision Capability

Gungho Cowboy

Shown previously at the Shot Show 2012, this night vision adaptor for the iPhone 4 and 4/S made by Black Heart International (BHI) would surely bring out the stalker, errr... lowlight film making creativity within us. The problem though is that it needs to be fitted with the AN/PVS-14 night vision monocular which costs thousands of bucks, many times more expensive than the hottest smartphone on the planet.

But if you already have an AN/PVS-14, having the adapter for the smartphone gives you convenience when wanting to take video footages of the action at night. We don't encourage the voyeurs to get any idea on what they can do with this. Not only can you take videos in low light conditions, but you can also take photo stills that you can send immediately by MMS or email in case it's an emergency thing. Useful for surveillance and perhaps catching in the act that sneaky burglar who is very much active in your neighbourhood.

With this, it increases the capabilities of the citizen journalists to take footage either in broad daylight or night time. The iPhone can take 1080p HD footages that even broadcast companies are now accepting submissions that they can use in reporting news. For Law Enforcement and Military, surveillance tools just got more compact. Rather than having a separate recording device for night surveillance, they can just whip out their smartphones, mount the adapter, attach the device, and they start taking intelligence in no time. Now, that's off the shelf technology for you.

For airsoft, after some night actions, you can take the break, and use this to capture footages of night games as it's rare to find video footages of airsoft night games. Rather than have a separate night-capable HD camera, you can have your smartphone help you capture night action videos.

The BHI iPhone 4/4s Night Vision adapter is made of T6061 Aluminium and the sleeve of the adaptor protects a good portion of the iPhone 4/4s' back which is a fragile thing given that it's made of glass, though it only protects around 2/3rds of the body. Better have something to protect your iPhone 4 from stray BBs, especially at night when it's harder to distinguish the combatants. Make sure you have a strobe light with you indicating that you're night a combatant.

In case you think you are limited to just the iPhone 4 or 4s, BHI has plans to release the adapter for some of the best smartphones in the market, such as the Android (HTC EVO, Samsung Galaxy S2) and Blackberry devices.

The Adapter costs US$199.00, but then you will have to worry first having the AN/PVS-14 NV Monocular before getting the adapter which will surely put a big dent on your savings.
