360 cameras are slowly getting used in capturing the airsoft action. Popular Airsoft has been using 360 cameras since 2018 for 360 photos but with the increasing capabilities, videos of airsoft gameplays in 360 are now being posted due to Insta360 X series of 360 action cameras.

Here is a sample of an airsoft gameplay using the Insta 360 One X:

You will notice that with a 360 camera the action is captured in whatever view and no need to use 2 to 3 action cameras to have a first person or third person view in one setting. Just one 360 camera can do it and you can reframe the 360 video during editing to show what you want your viewers to see.

With the Insta360 X3, we now have a very capable 360 Action Camera that can go head to head against tried and tested action cameras from GoPro and DJI.

From the One X2, Insta360 dropped “One” from the X series with the X3. Still showing a slim profile, it now has a 2.29-inch rectangular touch display instead of the circular one seen in the One X and One X2. It is welcome change is it shows larger real estate to select the capture modes and previewing of images and videos.

Going into the guts, the X3 sports an upgraded 1/2-inch sensor with improved resolution and image quality. The video is still 5.7K like in the One X2, but the X3’s f1.9 lenses can capture even sharper images and has the Insta360’s Active HDR mode for the best possible dynamic range when capturing the action. Only the recently released, Insta360 ONE RS 1-Inch 360 Edition has better image capture due to its 1” sensor.

In single lens action, the X3 can now do 4K video with still photos topping at 72 megapixels. Other modes such as timelapse get 8K and its fun Matrix-style “Bullet Time” feature gets bumped to 4K. We like the new “Me Mode” feature which capture 180 degree footage with you in the middle. The loop recording feature can also be used for taking dashcam footage when on the road with the X3.

As the X3 is an action camera, it is rugged enough to take punishments, touchscreen is tempered glass but you still need to protect the lenses with the Sticky Lens Guards. We just hope next time they can put scratch-proof lenses. The X3 is suited for water action as it is waterproof up to 10 metres (33 feet). With the invisible selfies stock, you can take selfies without the selfies stick visible in the photos and videos.

The Insta360 X3 360 Action Camera is now available to order at US$450 for the base camera and from the price goes up depending on the options you want. If you’re new to 360 cameras, we recommend the Get-Set kit as it comes with the invisible selfies stick and 64GB microSD memory card.
