I Love Big Guns In Airsoft, Even If They Fire Cute Koala Bears

OptimusPrime

Nothing beats a milsim or large-scale airsoft events that's peppered with lots of big guns, whether these are tanks, howitzers, mortars, and fixed gun implacements. These are meant to add more realism and also as objectives for airsoft games. We need more of these, but then that's up to airsoft event organisers to decide and spend on.

Still, there are people that we envy who have the time, money, and know-how to create such things outside of the usual suspects, the airsoft manufacturers. Without them, airsoft innovations would be so darn boring, and these people push the boundaries in airsoft games. Whilst there have been RPGs, LAWs, and AT4s dotting the airsoft landscape, they're nothing compared to these big guns as they are 1) intimidating; 2) longer ranged; and 3) nice to look at in the airsoft battlefield.

Too bad these cannot be commercialised and are made for local use only since ordering these would be logistical headaches. But if you think these airsoft novelty items would spruce up the life of your airsoft event, either be prepared to commission one made for you, make one yourself, or have the original idea-maker ship one to you at an even bigger cost.

Anyway, watching YouTube Videos would want you to make and here are some that would surely get your fancy:

Airsoft Mortars

These are the easiest to make, ranging from putting together Pringles cans that can be powered by some propellant, to nerf-firing rapid fire mortar canons, to one that actually uses 40mm shell bb showers. One actually fired a stuffed Koala bear, but that would make your kid sister cry.

But if you want an even more automated mortar for airsoft games, buy an automated tennis ball canon used in training then dress it up like a mortar. That way, you don't have to spend time tinkering around much.

Airsoft Howitzers

Now, this is something that I really want seen on a large airsoft field --- a working airsoft howitzer that can be towed with a small truck. This guy actually made one, and the range is good enough to wreck havoc on any approaching enemy platoon, provided that he can create an ammo that can separate in mid-air and sprinkle bbs onto skirmishers. BB death from above!

Hmmm... perhaps water ballons can be fired from this and exploded upon impact, splattering the players near it.

Airsoft Tanks

The best of the bunch, as they are mobile and can fire back. So far, airsoft tanks are nowhere near realistic as we want them to be. There are some contraptions made as tanks and can only be destroyed or captured with an airsoft RPG or rocket launcher and a marshal says so. So far, the most effective method in indicating a tank being disabled is the Berget anti vehicle system used in Berget Airsoft events in Sweden. This is an IR system that are mounted on vehicles and detect hits fired with some something like a 40mm launcher as shown in this video:

Tanks can wreck havoc on a game, and of course provide cover for infantry when approaching a fortified position. More Berget tanks below and another video of a home-made tank made specifically for large airsoft events in the USA.

So far paintball players still have better tanks:

If you have some airsoft projects that would really make airsoft games even more exciting and realistic, then contact us and shows us your working idea. We would be more than happy to post it here.
