Drats! It's out of stock at Amazon again and I wanted to get one for myself ever since I had my copy borrowed and never returned. If you know what I am talking about, then I could tell you that there's another edition coming out. Trevor Paglen, the artist that released the book I Could Tell You But Then You Would Have to be Destroyed by Me (Melville House, December 1, 2007), will have an updated version of the first edition and more patches from the Black Ops World will be revealed in the book.

I thought of Trevor Paglen and his book after the video game, and for me an underwhelming game "Call of Duty: Black Ops" came out this month (even if it's the largest video game release this year). So I checked online if there are news coming from him and indeed a second edition of his book is coming out.

His first edition was welcomed and loved by many, airsofters included. Pentagon wasn't happy with the revelation of these patches. But heck! These patches are now immortalised rather than relegated to obscurity and nobody knows who is wearing what in the civilian world (and even military world). The patches were something to be copied by wannabes though I know that many airsofters have some of these patches, honestly, I still have to encounter one player actually wearing one. Or am I looking the other way?

Expected to be released this month, the second edition seemed to be mainly about units operating drones and space-based systems. These are the "eye in the sky" which are secretly manned by units under the Pentagon or by the CIA. Here's a screenshot of two of the patches that will be included in the second edition.

I think this will be my coffee table book that I would get for Christmas, it's interesting to know more about these patches and the units wearing these. In case you are interested in other works of Paglen, he has a new book that just came out. Invisible is Paglen's photographic monograph of covert operations and classied landscapes. If you cannot get enough of Black Ops stuff, then this book is for you.
