Hyperdouraku Reports On The New Products From Tokyo Marui

OptimusPrime

As expected,Yas of the Hyperdouraku Blog visited the Tokyo Marui booth during the opening day of the 51st All Japan Model & Hobby Show to check out the new products that Tokyo Marui have been teasing us over the past days. Most of the predictions regarding the new products have been pretty much accurate, with one exception.

As to the excitement of having new products from the venerable Japanese airsoft company, this, frankly speaking (or writing), is a little bit underwhelming as there is no signifcant or groundbreaking product release for this year's show. Still, we are all contented that Tokyo Marui went for some variety this year and we're looking towards next year for some really new models.

Here's our best translation of what Hyperdouraku has written about the new products:

The next generation of the AEG SCAR-H Mk17 Mod 0 is based on the specifications for the 7.62 x 51 ammo. This can be switched from a 16inch barrel to a 13inch one. The length is from 965.2 - 901.7mm, and when folded it is 711.2mm. The weight is 3.639g with an inner barrel length of 300mm.

The rails, flash hider and outer barrel are CNC machined and anodized. White letters on the left side of the receiver which show the FN markings and model identification are laser engraved. The battery which, like the TM SCAR-L, is the same mini battery installed in the stock. The upper receivers of the H and L versions are of different lengths.

The shell casing deflector at the shell ejection port is also different from the SCAR-L, with the H version having a shorter but wider deflector. The folding stock is 6-stage telescopic whilst the cheek rest is 2-stage. The default SCAR-H magazine that ships with the TM SCAR-H has a capacity of 90-92 rounds and can be bought for JPY2,700 and the higher capacity magazine which can feed 450-500 rounds is sold separately for JPY3,980. Also shown is the the SCAR-H 7.62mm magazine compared to the 5.56mm of the SCAR-L. The standard magazine can be switched to be limited to 20 rounds for those who will play in low-cap games.

The photo above shows the material used in making the components of the TM SCAR-H as you will see that the metal areas are all CNC'd aluminium. The lower frame of the new gen AEG is made of plastic.

As expected a tan version of the New Gen TM RECCE Rifle is shown here, and shown here a black 12-inch version. The 10-inch CNC'd Omega Rails are licensed from Daniel Defense (via MadBull Airsoft). You can convert from 16inch to 12inches by removing the outer free float barrel. The tan colours are the rail, grips, stocks and the receiver. You can purchase a Tan version of the new gen TM M4/M16 if you prefer it. As like before, this uses the new gen SOPMOD crane stock, which means the battery is different. This will be released in Winter 2011 for a price of JPY64,800.

Not shown in Tokyo Marui's teaser announcement is the tan version of the TM Custom Steyr HC AEG. The release date is not yet known, but it is expected that the price will remain the same at JPY34,800. It is not really a full tan version as the Steyr Frame and foregrip are in tan while the metal parts are in black, making it technically a 2-tone one. Yas plans to use a 9mm magazine adapter to use 9mm AEG magazines and make it look like the Steyr AUG A3 9mm XS, which is the real steel gun that the Custom Steyr HC gets its design inspiration from.

As revealed before, Tokyo Marui finally release the XDM-40 gas blowback pistol. This is a pistol from Springfiled Armory Inc., USA, and has a polymer frame. This model is the calibre .40 SW design with the blowback piston having a large diameter of 15mm and a pretty much strong recoil. The magazine has a capacity of 26 rounds. It is 203mm in length, inner barrel is 99mm, with a pricing of JPY16,800 when it gets released in December 2011. The back of the pistol grip can be replaced and you can choose between small, medium, and large.

The coating on the slide gives a feeling of an innovative textured steel. The TM version is a little darker. The rear sight and front sights are metal with white dots for co-witnessing the sights and sport a high quality finish.

The ejection port and chamber with a dummy loading indicator is shown above. The metal is part of the extending breech. The ambidextrous magazine catch is a type that can be pulled out from the magazine by pressing on it from the left or right. The trigger safey shows the spring retaining pin for safety. Marui has made a fine job in this area. Between the under rail and trigger guard is a safety switch which mimics the original serial plate of the gun.

To dismantle the XDM-40, turn the latch on the left side of the pistol 90 degrees which you can then remove the slide which shows robust quality metal. The chamber shows the hop-up and outer barrel assembly. Also shown are the insides of the lower frame after removing the slide.

Press the rear slide which hammer will cock the hammer on the internal mechanism to protude a notch. You can remove the 15mm cylinder. The grip also features a safety mechanism which you see in the hi-capa series. It is a no-slip grip. moderately angular with a tension you can't put really describe properly.

The magazine is modeled after the real steel version, and has a capacity of 26 rounds. At the bottom of the magazine is an engraving 40SW 16rd. The back of the grip can be replaced and you can choose among three sizes. You will have to push the pin out before you can replace it. Like the PX4, you will have to push it out. It comes with a lanyard ring that also serves as the pin removal tool.

The pistol can easily fit in existing CQC Blackhawk Serpa Holsters as its dimensions follow the real steel one. For spare magazines, prepare to pay JPY2,980 and an optional CQ-Flash can be purchased for JPY2,480.

We were expecting a 100th Anniversary model of the Colt 1911, but we still welcome what they actually released which is the Colt Government Mark IV Series `70 which still part of the 1911 series. It shares the same magazine with the 1911 and will be released in the December 2011 at a price of JPY17,800.00. It has a beautifully polished slide, with a distinctively bluish finish. It is an improvement on the M1911A1 Government Model, which is now 100 years old.

Tokyo Marui has perfectly reproduced the engraved serial number and Colt markings, everything's well polished. The woodgrain grips with the gold colt medallion gives a realistic texture with blast finishing. The grip panel on the inside is filled with weights, and above it is the slide safety stop system. The polished hammer looks like a spur.

The photos above show the difference between the two Government models, the  Series 70 has a redesigned barrel bushing to hold the barrel and give it more accuracy. The outer barrel is also polished nicely and new rear and front sights.

The diameter of the screw in the firing pin was made smaller and the barrel and chamber are separate parts. If you compare the finish of both the Mark IV Series 70 and the M1911A1 you'll see the metallic gray finish on the original whilst a brighter coloured wooden pistol grip panel and metallic blue finish.

The Gas Revolver S&W Combat Magnums on display with the M66 available in in 6, 4, and 2.5 inch models, with the M66 used by Lupin in the anime show. The M19 makes another appearance after being out of production for some time and like the M66, also has 6, 4 and 2.5 inch models.

The M&P and HK 45 are still mockups, and no idea yet when these will be finally released. KSC has already released their own version during the Toy Gun Festival.

As already announced during the Japan Victory Military Show, is the second in the commemorative series of the Biohazard video game, the Samurai Edge Barry Burton Limited Edition. Price is JPY22,800 and will also be released in December 2011.

Cheaper fixed-slide models on display. With a price of JPY5,980, they will be on sale in early 2012. Yas tried shooting these models at the a shooting area within the Tokyo Marui booth. They are easy to shoot but the trigger pull is heavy.

New models for the younger airsoft enthusiasts with this M9A1 electric blowback airsoft pistol. It has a CQ-rail footprint and powered by four AAA batteries. It can be fired in semi and auto modes.

Tokyo Marui will also be releasing a SCAR-L CQC Boys HG to the delight of boys at 10 years of age.

Also in this show are limited edition airsoft guns such as the Recce Rifle Silver Sniper, the Steyr HC Camouflage, and the M92F Gold Model. If you want any of these, better place a pre-order at your airsoft retailer selling Tokyo Marui guns, even if they have not announced that they're taking orders.

One final tidbit in this report of Yas is the Crown Model Elex-9 AEG which is a replica of the B&T MP9. It is powered by six AA batteries with a fixed hop, semi fire switch, and the magazine has a capacity of 26 rounds. It costs US$49 and will be released in mid-December.

Thanks for your patience in reading this report, and again our thanks to Yas of Hyperdouraku for another splendid report on Tokyo Marui at the 51st All Japan Model and Hobby Show.
