How Much Is Too Much?

Dom

On the big screen our heroes and bad guys never run out of ammo. We're kind of used to that fact now and only movie geeks (I'm not one) count how many shots were fired out of a magazine. We're not even raising our eyebrows seeing that guns only jam or run out bullets when our hero is held at gunpoint.

I know TV isn't big screen and we should let our favorite crime soap get away with more but we should draw a line somewhere. I got to this point with a TV series called Person Of Interest (POI) from Warner Brothers.

I thought nothing can be worse than the shooting scenes of The Walking Dead where the guns don't have recoil, M4s don't have rear sights, handgun slides aren't moving and everyone scoring headshots left and right but then I watched S02E15 of POI. Our bad guy catches up with Mr. Reese, holds him at gunpoint with sidearm#1 (assuming it's his own).

Then in the next scene this gun changes into sidearm#2 a Glock-looking object (assuming it's Mr. Reese's).

Things get ugly between them and they both grab some rubber knives, to sort it out. Our hero wins that round by seriously stabbing the bad dude. Up to this point I didn't care about silenced shots out of non-silenced guns and CGI muzzle flashes but the next take truly surprised me. Mr. Reese reaches down the ground to pick up sidearm#3, takes the mag out, pulls off the slide and tosses them on table while he tells the bad guy to go to the hospital instead of messing with him. The gun he tossed on the table was an airsoft GBB gun, feeding lips and gas valve were clearly visible. I wasn't even thinking about the subject why a professional badass leaves a gun behind with his fingerprint on it.

I mean this is worse than Killing Them Softly with its blank cartridges in slow motion. You can clearly see the feeding lip and gas valve on the image.

Am I expecting too much from POI? Maybe. If this was House or Dallas then I would say the hell with it, but this show is supposed to be about guns and gadgets so I can't let this one slide. I guess it's a whole lot easier and safer to use airsoft guns on a set, but.....really? Plain lazy, that's what it was and I hope I can get over it by the time I watch the next episode. :)

Later my friends told me that was just the review of the latest TM handgun. Excellent review Mr. Reese, some reviewers could learn a lot from you (really). I'll go watch a freddiew flick to forget about all this.
