On Gun Safety: Alcohol And Guns Don't Mix Well

Gungho Cowboy

This is an unfortunate incident. A man doing  a show and tell on gun safety to his girlfriend accidentally shot himself to death in Michigan a week ago. According to The Independent, he was showing what were supposed to be three unloaded handguns and that they are safe by holding to his head and pulling the trigger. However, the third handgun was still loaded and thus he shot himself in the head.

His girlfriend told the Police that he was drinking for most of the day before the incident. Thus, the factor leading to his death was considered to be the influence of alcohol.

Inebriation will always lead to people being clumsy and thus, we always caution even airsoft players not to handle airsoft guns when they drink.  I remember one incident when an airsoft player, under the influence of alcohol, was checking if his airsoft pistol was still loaded and he peered down the barrel. He accidentally pulled the trigger and also forgot that a loaded gas magazine was inserted. Fortunately for him, he was wearing spectacles that proved to be tough and thus, saved an eye.

We do a lot of foolish stuff when we are drunk and sometimes we won't remember what we have done the previous night of drinking. But there are those who won't wake up to remember the night --- they're dead by smashing their car against a tree, or in this case handling a loaded firearm and accidentally shooting themselves.

Firearms are dangerous when mishandled, with the possibility of mishandling higher when we drink alcohol. Even airsoft guns can cause injuries when the user is drunk.

Remember the caution "Don't Drink and Drive?" This goes the same when you have a gun.
