Ground Zero Weekender 2011: 1600 Players Booked And Still Counting

OptimusPrime

The day where a lot of players from all over the UK, Europe, and even across the pond are preparing for is just less than 20 days away. The Ground Zero Weekender, now going on its 5th year promises to be even larger, with 1600 players already booked as of this writing. This event beats Berget Events in Sweden, which for Berget 9 (2011), had 1500 participants. Last year, there were 1,412 players. The Groud Zero 2011 will be held on  the 26th to the 28th of  August, 2011 in Ringwood.

So what makes this fun that many players always go back for more year on year? It's not exactly a very milsim event, as it's just absolute mayhem when the game starts as over a thousand players playing at the same time, all with itchy trigger fingers, would guarantee that it's going to be just that, absolute mayhem. But damn it's fun! For anyone searching for a "target rich environment", this is the place to be. Where else would you find a huge airsoft event where a player who gets hit, smiles and laughs loud? Only at Ground Zero.

You can do anything you want, as there are no strict orders for you to accomplish objectives and help your group win the weekend. There will be objectives of course, and the group leaders would give general orders according to the schedule. But overall, you're free to do which you think would help your group. Even for your loadout, there are no requirements, that's just how the rules are there as long as don't violate FPS limits and safety regulations.

As the organisers say, "a good airsoft day is 60% social, and 40% airsoft". Groundzero is not about the shooting, capturing objectives, and garnering points; it's about the camaraderie and fiesta atmosphere at the camp site. Even as a majority of players would be walking around in BDUs and their gear, there's always a great chance that an odd person would walk to you wearing something else, like the Lego man and the rejects of the movie "300" last year. I guess a good number of players spent more hours drinking until morning than actually battling it out with the rest.

This will be the fourth straight year that we shall be covering the event, and we're just hoping 26 August arrives soon. As to what H and the rest of the Ground Zero gang have in store for players, we do not know. They always have something new, so we all better look forward to it.

For those who haven't been to this event, you better book yourselves as soon as you can as the clock's ticking. There's no walk-in registration and everyone should book ahead. And for an airsoft player, this is one of the "must be there" events in your airsoft life.
