Get Ready with COMBATREDI

Gungho Cowboy

*Sigh*. I doubt that this will become available for airsoft sites as they will be such an expensive toy only those with deep, deep, and deep pockets (read: Military) will be able to afford. Engadget has gotten hold of the news about this augmented reality combat simulator developed by Cubic Corporation called COMBATREDI.

According to Engdadget the COMBATRED... "simulator features a hi-def, helmet mounted OLED video display for a 60 x 45-degree field of view, an integrated 3D stereo headset for sound, and a wireless "surrogate" rifle that performs like a real one, right down to the need for fresh magazines and various firing modes. The user's movements are tracked by way of a REDITAC tactical computer worn on the back, with a suite of sensors that can also determine where he's looking, and whether he's standing, kneeling, or lying on the ground."

At the cost of US$4.8 million, 27 units will be delivered to the Florida National Guard. That means around US$178k per unit. That's a lot of X-Boxes, Playstation, or PC Gaming devices that can be bought with that amount, and perhaps a guaranteed lifestime supply of all the FPS titles that have been released or will be released in the future for mere mortals like us.
