The Gadget Show Builds The Ultimate Battlefield 3 Simulator

Whilst Battlefield 3 fans are awaiting the arrival of the game on the 25th of October, The Gadget Show embarked on a project that will be just give them the ultimate dream gaming machine: a Battlefield 3 FPS 360-degree Simulator that doesn't just make you shoot and hit your enemies in the game, you will feel pain when they shoot back and you get hit.

The Gadget Show tandem of Suzi and Jason were able to have their hands on the a pre-release version of Battlefield 3. Rather than just the usual Gadget Show review using the an XBox 360 Console and a television, they decided to build the ultimate FPS simulator by tapping a team of experts. With a budget of £500,000 (yes, that's right, half a million quid), the experts hacked the Kinect motion controller, put into place an omni-directional treadmill, and a dome-sized projector screen to give that 360 panoramic view. For the virtual players to shoot back and hit the human player, they placed 12 paintball markers (let's petition that to be replaced with airsoft guns to make it even more realistic).

The results is a fully immersive first person shooter experience where you can do movement, aim and shoot in a virtual environment. The whole system tracks the player's movement as he jumps crouches, or runs, in this case, Jason Bradbury, as he goes through the motions of the game. You will just wish that you have been recruited as a guinea pig to test this system out.

How you will wish this would the ultimate Christmas game for you, only if you can cough up that half a million pound cash, and the space in your house, most likely you will need to buy a castle first to put that in.

The Gadget Show is on to something with this developed idea, only if they can fully package and sell it. Since no gamer would be able to afford it, unless they're trust fund babies, Wall Street Bankers, or they own the gaming companies, this simulator can be used by military and law enforcement organisations to train their men (and women). With the ability of the enemy to shoot back and "hurt/kill" the shooter, the training experience goes to a very different level.

If you're in the UK, set your telly to Channel 5 on Monday, 24 October 2011, at 8pm where you get to see the Ultimate Battlefield 3 Simulator on The Gadget Show.
