This is a nice weekend gift from Thumpy's 3-D House of Airsoft. But before you watch the video below, if you're eating or drinking anything, better set them aside unless you're so used to watching this thing. You've been warned that you'll be grossed out once you watch the video and don't blame us nor Thumpy nor Dr. Timothy Root if you suddenly grab for the barf bag. After all, this video is for your safety knowledge.

The exploding eye lecture of Dr. Timothy Root is one well put and even, funny video that describes eye trauma in  different  scenarios, whether through penetrating injuries, heat, chemical burns, laser light, and explosions as well. He uses pig's eye for this lecture to demonstrate the effects of such injuries to the human eye and determine which are the most dangerous.

For us, we were keen to get confirmation that what we already know as Dr. Airsoft have been providing us information, that eye injuries caused by airsoft BBs are not as dangerous as other penetrating injuries from projectiles (with firearms excluded from the test for obvious reasons). At 6:11 of this video, Dr. Root discusses projectiles for penetrating injuries and compared BB guns, Pellet Guns, Airsoft Guns and Paintball Guns. He discusses mass and energy but the best thing is the actual demo of these being fired at a pig's eye. Paintball just obliterated the eye, while pellets made a clean penetration with airsoft (.20g at 1 joule) not doing any penetration at all though causing damage externally even at full auto.

Dr. Root also confirms what Dr. Airsoft says along, that eye injuries from projectiles always happen not at game sites but at home where unsupervised children or even adults  handling these without protection and supervision. Game sites have stricter safety rules whilst in homes or neighbourhoods, no one imposes such rules when no adults are around, or such devices are left loaded and within easy reach.

The almost 30-minute lecture is very enlightening as it gives us an eye opener at understanding eye injuries which can be caused by objects and liquids that are within our immediate environment. This means that we have to secure such items that can cause injuries to people, most especially children.

A must watch video for everyone, in particular for airsoft players. Bookmark this or download it if possible and show it to as a safety video for those who are being introduced to the sport to make them realise that we take safety seriously. Indeed, it is a valuable show and tell for all.
