Even If It Is Cute, Keep It Locked Away When Not In Use

Whether real steel or airsoft, some fancy, oh-so-cute guns are proliferating these days. If we speak about airsoft, in the past weeks, we have posted announcements of a pink FPG, G36, and the Femme Fatale seems to be thing of the past with these new models. In real steel we see some women at the gun range shooting with their pink or green Hello Kitty handguns and rifles.

No doubt about it, these guns are cute in bright colors, especially those Hello Kitty guns that seem to get the most attention in custom gun designs. However, please do not mistake them to be harmless as compared to the usual black, tan, camouflaged, or chrome guns. They are just as dangerous to anyone, especially those not trained to handle firearms or even airsoft guns when they're just left lying around and within easy reach of anyone.

Especially kids.

This is what happened to 3-year old Tmorej Smith of Greenville, South Carolina who have mistakenly thought at pink handgun for a toy and accidentally shot himself in the head. Smith and her sister were playing in the bedroom and the parents were not around when the accident happened. According to the Huffington Post, Police officers rushed to the scene after receiving a call of a shot fired, and found the child dead with a single gunshot wound to the head.

It is dangerous to have firearms not safely locked away at home, especially when there are children. With brightly colored firearms, children will tend to associate them as toy guns, since they see these at toy stores. And what's more, bright colored things attract children.

Even airsoft guns that are not out of reach of children have the potential to cause injury. Most airsoft eye injuries reported by hospitals are mainly  of children. As airsoft players, we are always admonished to treat airsoft guns like real firearms, so we should we also put them safely away like real firearms, either with gun locks or gun cabinets and safely stored away --- out of sight and out of reach of children.

These are wise investments if you want to own a firearm or an airsoft gun as these will help keep your home safe from any potential accident involving guns. Also, ensure that each firearm or airsoft gun that you own has its magazine removed and there's not a round left in the chamber.

I know that this is not a new story, as we have read or heard such unfortunate accidents happen in the past. But it won't stop us from reminding you about gun safety, and especially if it will affect children.
