Enemy Front WWII First Person Shooter Set For Spring 2014 Release

Gungho Cowboy

Are you ready to go back to World War II-themed first person shooter games? The best selling FPS video games, Castle Wolfenstein, Medal of Honor, and Call of Duty started with the World War II theme, with the last two video game series evolving into more modern (and futuristic) FPS video games and earning big from the development of such games. With the two big names transcending the World War II theme and raking in big bucks in much more modern theme, will the World War II still be a hit amongst FPS gamers?

City Interactive, the publisher behind Sniper Ghost Warrior, Dogfight 1942, and a host of other game titles, think it will be able to mine more gold from the World War II FPS game theme when they announced the development of the game "Enemy Front" in 2011 and having British game designer, Stuart Black as lead for the game. However, Black left City Interactive over creative differences in October 1912, and City Interactive appointed Raphael van Lierop of Warhammer 40k: Space Marine, Far Cry, Dawn of War, and Mass Effect to take lead in the design.

With the entry of van Lierop, the game was revamped, adopting a non-linear approach and players will have to go behind enemy lines to stop the Nazi war machine, which is the fare of much of the World War II video games.

To summarize what the Enemy Front is all about we take from the description from City Interactive:

Enemy Front is an original WWII action game that takes players behind enemy lines to tackle the might of the Nazi war machine. Spanning several years and in stunningly realized, diverse, unique and authentic theatres of conflict, players will engage in warfare against organized and intelligent enemy forces as they fight to disrupt German occupation and thwart Hitler’s secret weapons program.

I'm bit confused on the main character of the game, which according to IGN when they saw the preview of the revamped game during the recently held 2013 Pax 10. According to them, the character is a journalist behind enemy lines who must have discovered secret weapons program and had to go and reach the allies about this program. As to what program is this, we do not know if it's about paranormal like in Wolfenstein, or the atomic bomb program that the Nazis were developing but was stopped with the Norwegian underground destroyed the heavy water project in occupied Norway.

I never got tired of the World War II - theme play and as long as there's a compelling story, a good video game play, and better graphics give better immersive experience, it will attract FPS gamers. If City Interactive succeeds with Enemy Front, will the Medal of Honor and Call of Duty go back to their roots?

Enemy Front, originally slated for release late this year, now has a new release schedule which will be in Spring 2014. It will be available for the PC, XBox, and Playstation platforms.
