Election Gun Ban nets 779 Airsoft Guns

While there is an ongoing effort to exempt Airsoft guns from the Philippine election gun ban, there are still people who cannot just wait for it to happen, if it will happen, and will try to push the limits of the law and law enforcement authorities. Airsoft guns and replicas are the biggest number of confiscated items according to a report from the local news television channel.

According to GMA News TV, as of this writing... Authorities have seized 695 firearms, including 294 high-powered and 401 low-powered firearms; and 779 Airsoft firearm replicas. Also seized were 186 bladed weapons and 34 grenades. A pretty high number of confiscated weapons and toy guns given that the local police are enforcing the gun ban to the fullest.

It is not worth violating the law, as it is the law, and it does not impose a permanent gun ban on players. It is always a given the Philippine campaign seasons have high incidents of violence through the use of guns, and that airsoft should not be a part of it. And the penalty for violating the Omnibus Election Code is stiff, which can put you into jail from 1 year to 6 years without a chance of probation. The gun ban will expire on the 9th of June 2010, so a lot of patience will help as you can all play again. It is not worth trying to violate the law and it is just temporary.

Lucky for those who have availed of the storage services of airsoft sites ahead of the gun ban, they'll be able to play airsoft without the need of transporting their airsoft guns. For those who were not able to do it, perhaps shelling out an extra money  to rent airsoft guns at airsoft sites won't hurt. I would rather pay up to rent one  to play than be put in jail when caught with my own airsoft gun while the ban is in effect. Just imagine the lost income and a blemish on your record when  you get caught.
