Connecticut Town Approves Airsoft Indoor Site

Gungho Cowboy

This should have been relegated to the Latest News Section, but poring over the comment section, the story is not just about an approved indoor airsoft site. Though there's the usual exchange about promoting violence to kids in the state, some of the significant look beyond the usual gun violence debate, and see it as something that would be very helpful to the local economy.

Said to be the only one of its kind in Connecticut, the local planning authority has approved the facility. Besides the emptying of big commercial facilities during these tough times, airsoft games organisers are making these empty buildings earn something. Just like The Mall in Reading in the United Kingdom.

An indoor airsoft facility, reportedly the first in the state, has won Planning and Zoning Commission approval.

The facility will occupy a portion of the former Sav-Mor Market at 540 Main St., near the intersection with Court Street.

Airsoft uses detailed replicas of actual guns to shoot plastic pellets. It has been described as being similar to paintball, but not as messy.

The application was submitted to the PZC by Joseph Dudash, a New Britain resident who is also an airsoft equipment supplier.

In outlining his proposal, Dudash told the commission that there is no other indoor airsoft facility in the state. There is an outdoor facility in Wolcott.

In his application, Dudash described airsoft as “similar to paintball. Same principles, but with airsoft equipment. Cleaner, cheaper and quieter.”

Town Planner Craig Minor said he understands airsoft “is something both kids and adults enjoy doing.”

This indoor airsoft site is now known as Area 52. It is expected to open this mid-February 2010. So if you're in the New England area, then you might as well check this out. New York City players would especially welcome this.
