Blackhawk! SERPA Level 3 Light Bearing Duty Holster Recalled

OptimusPrime

The Blackhawk! SERPA Holster Series are not getting any break. Whilst they have become popular holsters for real steel and airsoft users alike, problems have occured and reported by people. I have to admit that I have experienced issues with it twice and all this time, but I attributed it to user error rather than a manufacturing defect.

One of the first recalls I have heard is the "High Wall" versions of the Carbon Fibre SERPA and Sportster Holsters for Glock 20, 21, and Smith and Wesson M&P. The holster is actually controversial according to reports as reported by The Firearm Blog "The holster is controversial because if not careful, a shooter can hook their finger in the trigger when drawing it and discharge the gun into their leg." And the USMC has been criticised for adopting this holster.

Now, the latest problem is with the SERPA Level 3 Light Bearing Holsters in which tightening the screws when mounting the holster to the platform would cause stress on the materials and weakening them, with the holster separating from the platform. For those who have bought those ACM (China-made) rip-offs, you will encounter the same problems.

Most of the holsters that are affected were made before October 2011 and some of the of these holsters that were made in March-June 2009 have certain parts "that can contribute to this condition.

So, if you own one of these models, you can have it sent back to Blackhawk! and they will replace/upgrade it free of charge. If you're ACM owner, don't push your luck.

Below is the Safety Notice and Replacement Program issued by Blackhawk! You can download a PDF version of this by clicking on it.
