Airsoft Plantation "Intervention" Weekender Blast

OptimusPrime

We finally get to visit the Airsoft Plantation field over the weekend. Their "Intervention" event is the first major event for a skirmish site that's relatively young if compared to other fields in the area, it is getting more and more players with relatively big playing ground, infrastructure, and friendly staff.  The original Airsoft Plantation is in Billericay, Essex but they also have another field in the Kent, which they call "AP South." With the promise of a weekend of vehicles and aerial rides (and bombing runs too!) we finally set out mind to attend this event.

The event didn't disappoint, and the problems that arose were quickly swatted away. Intervention is a non-stop skirmish (not MilSim) which went for almost 48 hours. This means that players and stamina who have the zeal to play non-stop are  allowed to do, whilst others can select to sleep on and off the site, as long as they're able to defend their camps from the opposing force. Two groups battled it out, the Military who needed to capture missile components and launch coordinates, and the Rebels who were determined to frustrate theirs efforts and were such an effective group. A third group, called the Villagers were there to spoil the fun of either group, with their allegiances switching many times during the course of the weekend.

WE Airsoft, Gun Mart and G1098 were there, with the first two having their wares on display during the first day, and we also got to have discussions with Mark, the owner of the G1098 as his company is expanding, including a garments factory to take care of military gear contracts and employ local people rather than outsourcing such projects outside of the UK. There will be a grand opening of their new place and we were invited to cover it as long as we get the exact date in June.

One of the come-ons for the event were the helicopter rides where players who paid more for the opportunity to ride choppers in full gear comprised almost half of those who attended. I get to ride with the fine women from Gun Mart and the Matt of WE Airsoft and we have to thank Mr. G for such a ride.

We also played the part of the Villagers, despite being outnumbered, and having our village raided by both forces the whole time, we had fun as we get to shoot at both groups whenever our allegiance shifted and both groups sometimes find out too late.

The second day highlight were the aerial drop off and bombing run where players had to battle it out to grab the items dropped off by the plane before it makes another run, which this time, it turned out to be a bombing run.

It was really a fun weekend and with the weather cooperating, we finally get to have ourselves sunned and a little bit tanned. The management and staff of the field is superb and they promise of even bigger and greater things for airsoft players. Still we are nursing a sore back and processing the photos which can be found at the Popular Airsoft Facebook Page with even more photos at the AP Facebook Page and Jon Kemp Media. As for the videos, we'll have to sort them out further as we are just still getting used to our newly acquired helmet camera.
